September 2, 2026

On Sunday, August 30th, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Forest Grove Police Officer attempted to stop a black sedan near the intersection of SW Old Highway 47 and SW Scoggins Valley Road for a traffic violation. The vehicle initially pulled over before accelerating at a high rate of speed. The officer did not initially pursue the vehicle. The officer recognized the vehicle from multiple previous times it had eluded over the last few months.

While officers searched for the suspect vehicle, a motorist called 911 and reported the vehicle was driving north on Highway 47 with no headlights and almost caused a head-on crash. A few minutes later, the vehicle passed a sergeant southbound on SW Old Highway 47. As the vehicle approached the intersection of SW Old Highway 47 and SW Scoggins Valley Road, an officer successfully deployed stop sticks.

The vehicle eluded an additional time south on SW Old Highway 47, and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle refused to stop for approximately five miles until the vehicle lost multiple tires and became inoperable.

The driver, 23-year-old Julian Valencia Macias of Gaston, was arrested for attempting to elude and reckless driving. The vehicle was impounded.

Why not renovate the existing police station? When considering a new police facility, the City also looked closely at renovating the current building. But age, structural limitations, accessibility, seismic needs, and the cost of bringing the facility up to modern standards make renovation a significant challenge. Chief Marzilli and Josh Frank discuss infrastructure challenges with the current facility. Police Facility Bond, Measure 34-353 will appear on the November 3 ballot.

I'm just gonna go ahead and put this here...

We're supposed to have a soggy few days ahead, consider this your first of many reminders to take a little extra care when driving in liquid sunshine, especially as it will be extra slick from built up grime from the long dry spell.

Slow down, turn your lights on, slow down, avoid using cruise control, slow down, use proper windshield wipers, and slow down.

And lastly, don't forget your duty as an Oregonian to put your hands on your hips, scan the clouds, and say something along the lines of "we needed this" at least once. It's a civic obligation.

Each day the Forest Grove Police Department receives and responds to anywhere from 50-70 calls for service - give or take a few. This includes calls and reports generated by the community, as well as self-initiated activity over the course of three shifts, 24/7.

In the month of August 2026, we serviced 1,631 calls total, with an average of 53 calls per day.

Of those, 650 were calls made to dispatch (911 or non-emergency), and 981 were self-initiated (such as traffic stops and extra patrols).

Officers also made 55 arrests during the month, however that number includes arrests that resulted in citations as well as trips to the jail and peace officer holds.

Police conducted 86 welfare checks, 264 traffic stops, as well as 49 extra patrols – which is when officers specifically spend time at and around a particular area to address suspicious activity, traffic safety, and/or community concerns.

Among the 1,631 calls, the FGPD responded to 98 calls involving suspicious persons, vehicles, or circumstances, as well as: 24 thefts, 4 assaults, 6 burglaries, 12 DUIIs, 7 hit-and-runs, and 43 disturbances.

To date, your Forest Grove Police have responded to 14,359 calls in 2026.

A note from our friends at Forest Grove Fire & Rescue regarding the current smoky conditions.

We are experiencing another day of smoky conditions from nearby wildfires. If you smell smoke or see a haze outside, there’s no need to call 911 or the non-emergency number. Only call if you see a column of smoke or flames.

The latest edition of the Forest Grove Police Log is now available on our website. During the week, Forest Grove police officers were engaged in 338 incidents, both reported and self-initiated, averaging 48 calls per day.
These are a few of those calls.

A 'stolen' car whose owner had only forgotten where he'd parked it, a ruined and irreplaceable Taylor Swift poster, and a woman who rammed a man's vehicle before driving to the station to turn herself in are in this week's Forest Grove Police Log.

Our K-12 students are headed back to the classroom next week!
School begins Monday, August 31 for 7th & 9th Graders, and Tuesday, September 1 for grades 1-5, 8, 10-12.
Kindergarten starts on September 2, as does 6th grade.

As we transition back into the swing of things, the FGPD will have an increased presence in the school zones to encourage cautious driving.

Remember: many school zones have traffic changes when students are around, and more busses will be on the road.

We will be particularly looking out for speeding, distracted driving (such as texting or cellphone use), passenger safety (such as seat belts, car seats and booster seats), and obedience to posted traffic signs, including the red lights on school busses.

Thank you for working together with each other, the school district, and the extra patrols. We appreciate the efforts of our community in keeping our children safe!

Last weekend, our community experienced a horrific domestic violence incident that resulted in the loss of five lives and their beloved pets. In the aftermath of a tragedy like this, it is normal to have strong emotions, questions, or a need for community connection.
Next week (Wednesday, September 2) Domestic Violence Resource Center is offering drop-in community support at the Forest Grove City Library. DVRC advocates and counselors will be available to talk, answer questions, and provide connections to community resources.

You do not have to navigate this difficult time alone. Whether you have questions about domestic violence dynamics, need somone to talk to, or just want to be in a supportive space, we are here for you.
