05-31-26: UPDATE BOIL WATER ADVISORY
The Town of Forest City has lifted the Boil Water Advisory. Required water sampling and testing have been completed, and results confirm the water is safe for consumption. No further boiling of water is necessary.

NC DEQ Asheville Regional Office was contacted about the boil water advisory. Town staff collected samples from the distribution system for the required testing.

UPDATE: Water Main Break in Forest City

The Town of Forest City has restored water service following the major water main break on Big Springs Avenue. Water is currently being turned back on to affected areas, and the roadway has reopened.

A Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for all affected Forest City Water customers for the next 24 hours. Residents should boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or food preparation for at least one minute before use. Utility crews will continue to monitor the system. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

🚨 WATER SERVICE DISRUPTION 🚨
The Town of Forest City has reported a major water main break on Big Springs Avenue. Water service may be interrupted, or water pressure may be low in parts of Rutherford County while repairs are made. Areas that may be affected include:

• Bostic
• Cherry Mountain
• Ellenboro (Concord Water customers)
• Nearby surrounding areas

The damaged water line must be shut down during repairs. Crews are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Repairs are expected to take about 6 hours. Residents are encouraged to conserve water and prepare for possible service interruptions.

Road Closure: Big Springs Avenue is closed between Flack Road and Big Springs Avenue near the repair area.

📢 Monitor official county and municipal communication channels for updates. Text the word ALERTRC to the phone number 888777 for emergency text alerts.

An evacuation notification was mistakenly sent by Spartanburg County that referenced Rutherford County, NC.

At this time, there are NO evacuation orders in effect for any portion of Rutherford County, North Carolina.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official Rutherford County Emergency Management channels for accurate and up-to-date information.

Please do not call 911 unless you have an actual emergency.

Rutherford County Emergency Management has activated flash flood warning sirens for the Falls Creek area just north of Chimney Rock, NC.

⚠️ Residents and visitors in the affected area are strongly encouraged to move away from the river and seek higher ground immediately.

If you are staying near the Rocky Broad River in the Chimney Rock/ Lake Lure area, please maintain situational awareness and closely monitor weather conditions and water levels. Conditions can change rapidly and water levels may rise with little warning.

Please continue to monitor trusted weather sources, local emergency notifications, and official Rutherford County Emergency Management updates for additional information.

🚨 PUBLIC SAFTEY NOTICE – SIREN SYSTEM TESTING/MAINTENANCE 🚨

Rutherford County Emergency Management will be conducting siren system testing today, Monday, May 4, 2026 in the Lake Lure area from 10:00am-12:00pm.

During this time, residents may hear audible sirens and voice announcements as part of testing and system checks.

👉 If during testing there is a true emergency, alerts will be sent out via our Alert Rutherford – Everbridge notification system, through this page & Rutherford County Government, North Carolina social media pages.

📢 STATEWIDE BURNING BAN IN EFFECT SATURDAY, MARCH 28TH AT 6:00PM 📢

Rutherford County residents, please be aware that a statewide burning ban has been issued for all 100 counties in North Carolina.

Effective Saturday, March 28th at 6:00 PM, all open burning is prohibited, and all previously issued burning permits have been canceled .

This action has been taken due to hazardous fire conditions across the state, including dry vegetation, low humidity, windy conditions and increased wildfire risk.

🔥 What you need to know:
• No open burning is allowed across North Carolina
• All burning permits are void effective 6:00 PM today
• The ban will remain in effect until further notice

We strongly urge all residents to comply with this ban to help prevent wildfires and protect lives, property, and natural resources.

Please stay alert and report any signs of fire immediately by calling 911.

Rutherford County is currently under a Red Flag Warning due to low humidity, strong winds, and extremely dry vegetation. These conditions can lead to rapid fire growth and extreme fire behavior, increasing the risk of wildfires across our area.

We strongly urge all residents to avoid any unnecessary outdoor burning at this time. Even small fires can quickly get out of control under these conditions.

Your cooperation is critical in helping protect lives, property, and our communities.

🚧ROADWAY UPDATE🚧

The previously reported roadway closure at the intersection of Baber Rd./Union Rd. has been reopened to all traffic.

The tanker was safely removed without incident and emergency crews have cleared the scene.
