The Forest Acres Police Department has identified two people who died following a domestic violence incident on Barnes Springs Road.

The victim found shot dead at the scene is identified as Annie Christinal Pushpanathan, 53. The injured suspect was identified as Kenneth Dwain Benton, 67. He died from his injuries Thursday at a local hospital.

The preliminary investigation points to a murder su***de but the case remains active and ongoing. Based on information gathered thus far, investigators believe this was an isolated domestic violence incident with no threat to the public.

Records show from 2015 to 2021, FAPD responded to five complaint calls at the home between the two decedents. Each time there was not enough evidence to make a case, but each were provided resources which they declined.

“This is an incredibly tragic situation that has deeply impacted everyone involved,” said Chief Don Robinson. “Based on the information gathered thus far, investigators believe this was an isolated domestic violence incident, and there is no threat to the public. While the investigation remains ongoing, this case serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating consequences domestic violence can have on individuals, families, and entire communities.”

Anyone experiencing domestic violence or concerned about the safety of a loved one is encouraged to seek help. Assistance is available through Sistercare at 803-765-9428 or through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE (7233).

The Forest Acres Police Department has taken a man into custody following a domestic violence incident at a Forest Acres home.

This afternoon, just before 3:40 p.m., FAPD officers responded to the 3000 block of Barnes Springs Road to perform a welfare check at a residence after receiving a call from a concerned family member.

FAPD officers arrived on scene in less than two minutes after receiving the initial call. Once there, officers found the home entry blocked and made a forced entry into the residence.

Inside, officers discovered the body of a deceased female. Her identity and cause of death are pending autopsy by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Forest Acres hostage negotiators made contact with the suspect inside the home and were able to talk him into surrendering in under an hour. Once in custody, it was discovered the suspect was injured which is believed to have occurred before officers arrived on scene. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and remains in custody at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

“This is a heartbreaking situation and a tragic reminder of the devastating impact domestic violence can have on families and communities,” said Chief Don Robinson.

“Domestic violence situations are often complex and dangerous, and we encourage anyone experiencing abuse or warning signs to seek help before situations escalate to violence.”

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available through Sistercare at

The Forest Acres Police Department (FAPD) is fully cooperating with an outside investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting overnight connected to an FAPD corporal.

Chief Don Robinson responded to the incident scene on the 5000 block of Two Notch Road shortly after 3:30 in the morning.

Chief Robinson called in the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and their Officer Involved Shooting Investigative Team to show his and the city’s commitment to transparency in this ongoing investigation.

“We will cooperate fully with the Sheriff’s Department as they investigate this officer involved shooting. At this time, I’ve placed Cpl. Daniel Haddad on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation, which is standard protocol. Our thoughts are with all involved,” said Chief Don Robinson.

Cpl. Daniel Haddad has been employed by FAPD since July 2021.

This is the first deadly officer involved shooting involving a Forest Acres Police Officer in decades.

“Forest Acres is a city rooted in community and faith,” said Mayor Thomas Andrews. “During difficult times like these, we ask for patience as law enforcement investigates. We as a city also affirm our commitment to transparency. Finally, we ask for prayers for all involved, especially families touched by loss.”

No additional information will be released by FAPD at this time due to the ongoing RCSD investigation.

Forest Acres Police Department Encourages Drivers to Take Precautions After Overnight Vehicle Crimes

The Forest Acres Police Department (FAPD) is urging residents to remain vigilant, lock their vehicles, and remove valuables after a series of vehicle-related crimes reported overnight.

Investigators report at least 12 vehicles were targeted. Ten vehicles were illegally entered and rummaged through, and two vehicles were reported stolen. Incidents occurred in and around The Laureate off Forest Drive, and along Creek Vista Way and Creek Manor, as well as in the Covenant Crossing area. One vehicle was reported stolen from The Laureate and another from the Ravenwood Apartments.

“These crimes are often preventable,” said Don Robinson, Chief of Police. “We’re asking residents to lock their cars every time, bring valuables inside, and report suspicious activity immediately. A few simple steps can significantly reduce the risk.”

FAPD is actively investigating and spent the day collecting evidence. Officers are asking residents with information or security camera footage to contact the department.
