🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — September 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless families, friends, and communities forever changed by that tragic day.

We especially honor the 343 firefighters of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to help others. They ran toward danger when others were running away, demonstrating courage, duty, and selflessness that will never be forgotten.

We also remember the police officers, EMS personnel, military members, dispatchers, first responders, and everyday citizens who showed extraordinary bravery in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their memory.

May we never forget the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the sacrifices made on September 11, 2001.

🚨 STORM ALERT

The National Weather Service reports another round of strong storms headed our way. Here's what to expect:

🔹 Wind gusts of 30–45 mph
🔹 Downpours producing 1–3+ inches of rain per hour
🔹 Another 0.5" to 1.5" of rainfall on top of what we've already received

The ground is soaked and can't absorb much more, so flooding remains a real concern. Do your part to stay safe and keep our first responders out of harm's way:

✅ Stay off the roads if you don't need to be out
✅ If you see water covering a road, turn around – don't risk it
✅ Get vehicles and valuables to higher ground if you're in a flood-prone spot
✅ Barricades mean the road is unsafe – never drive around them
✅ Save 911 for true emergencies

We are currently dealing with severe weather moving through the area, with a Tornado Warning, Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and Flash Flood Warning all in effect.

Departments throughout the area are currently handling multiple calls and incidents related to the weather. With call volume high, emergency responses are being prioritized based on the severity of the situation and the potential danger to life and property.

Please keep in mind that 911 is also experiencing a high volume of calls. Dispatchers are working to get to each emergency as quickly as possible and are prioritizing calls based on the circumstances.

If you have a true emergency, call 911 and provide the dispatcher with your exact location and details of the situation.

For everyone else, please stay home if possible, avoid unnecessary travel, down wires, and stay away from flooded roadways. Never drive through water covering a roadway.

🚨 911 ADDRESSING SIGNS - THEY CAN SAVE PRECIOUS TIME!

When you call 911, every second matters. Clearly visible 911 addressing signs help fire, EMS, and police quickly locate your home, especially at night, during bad weather, or when responding to an emergency at a property that may be difficult to find.

A properly displayed address can mean the difference between responders finding you quickly and spending valuable time searching for the correct driveway or residence.

⚠️ Is your address clearly visible from the road?

The Forbes Road Fire Department offers 911 addressing signs for a fee. These signs are designed to make your address easily visible to emergency responders.

The Forbes Road Fire Department wishes all Greensburg Salem School District students, teachers, and staff a safe and successful school year!

As our kids head back to class, we ask all drivers to please:
🛑 STOP for school buses with flashing red lights
🚸 Slow down in school zones
👀 Watch for children walking to bus stops, especially in the early morning hours

Due to the forecast of severe weather and out of concern for everyone’s safety, this evening’s festival and fireworks have been canceled. There is no rain date.

The PA Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code RED Air Quality Alert for Westmoreland County and the surrounding region, in effect TODAY, Thursday, July 16, due to smoke from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota.

Code RED means air quality is unhealthy for EVERYONE - not just sensitive groups.

What you should do today:
❌ Avoid outdoor exercise and strenuous activity
🏠 Keep windows and doors closed; run A/C if you have it
👶 Keep children, elderly neighbors, and anyone with asthma, COPD, or heart conditions indoors
🐕 Limit time outside for pets, too

⚠️ FRIDAY, JULY 17 - CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO GET WORSE:
Tomorrow's forecast calls for a Code PURPLE Air Quality Alert - that's VERY UNHEALTHY air, a step above today's Code Red. At this level, everyone may experience serious health effects.

For tomorrow, please plan ahead:
🏠 Stay indoors as much as possible - reschedule outdoor plans, practices, and events
😷 If you must go outside, keep it brief; an N95 or KN95 mask can help filter smoke particles
🚗 Limit driving and other activities that add to air pollution
📞 Check on elderly neighbors and anyone with breathing or heart conditions
👶 Keep kids and pets inside
