For our June Creativebug Club, Stephanie will teach everyone about the history and process of making cyanotypes!!!! Wednesday June 24th from 6-7:45 pm in the Idea Studio.

Cyanotypes are produced by coating either fabric or paper with a special mixture of chemicals and left to dry in a dark room. Once dry, all sorts of different objects and items can be arranged onto the fabric/paper and placed in the sun or under a UV lamp to develop. (Since we will be doing this at night, we will use two UV lights and 2 boxes to expose our cyanotypes) After exposing the paper/ fabric under UV light for a set amount of time, the paper/ fabric then gets rinsed out, which will fix the print so it no longer exposes under UV light. Anywhere the UV light hits on the paper will turn blue after washing out.

Stephanie will also bring in some of her own works of art that she has made including cyanotype on fabric.

This event is open to patrons 13 years and older. Registration is required for each person joining this class, so please sign up to reserve your spot. Registration can be found on the library calendar page. If you are unable to attend after you sign up, PLEASE contact the library to cancel your seat to give other patrons a chance to join the class.

Everyone had a blast last week for our May Creativebug Club meetup in the Idea Studio. Last week Stephanie showed a variety of her mixed media and collage art to everyone and shared some videos and reels of other artists work that inspire her.

We talked a little bit about Creativebug and how you can access the website for free through the fdlpl.org site and how easy it is to look up videos and to follow along on Creativebug. We we're having so much fun that Stephanie forgot to get a picture of everyone's collages before they left.

If you like collage or are interested in trying it out for yourself, please feel free to stop into the Idea Studio during our open hours (Monday-Thursday 3-8 pm, Friday 3-6 pm & Saturday's noon-4 pm) to use our supplies to make your own collages!!!! We have a wide variety of old magazines that can be cut up, a large bin of a wide variety of paper ephemera, scrapbook paper, scissors, glue and so much more.

The next Creativebug Club for June will be held on Wednesday June 24th from 6-7:45 pm. In June, Stephanie will teach everyone about the history and process of making cyanotypes. Cyanotypes are produced by coating either fabric or paper with a special mixture of chemicals and left to dry in a dark room. Once dry, all sorts of different objects can be arranged onto the fabric/paper and placed in the sun or under a UV lamp. After exposing the paper/ fabric under UV light for a set amount of time, the paper/ fabric gets rinsed out, which will fix the print, so it no longer exposes under UV light. Then you will have a blue and white print when finished. Space is limited, so please visit our calendar to sign up for your spot today. This event is open to patrons 13 years and older.

Stop in to see what the Glowforge laser can do!

Register for our "Drop In & Design" Laser Engraved Summer Keychain event to design your very own keychain and see it get engraved right before your very eyes! Well, you won't want to watch the laser while it engraves (it can get very bright), but you'll be able to go home with your own custom keepsake.

This is not a badging class, but it is more of an introduction for patrons to see how cool and awesome the laser is. Then if you are hooked, you can sign up for one of our upcoming badging classes to learn how to use the laser on your own. Supplies are provided for this keychain, but space is limited.

We will be holding 5 separate sessions for our "Drop In & Design" event and this event is also only for patrons ages 18 and older.

Note: Each session is limited to one registrant in 20 minute increments. If full, be sure to check other sessions for availability.

"Creativebug Club: Beginning Collage" Next Wednesday, May 27th from 6-7:45pm in the Idea Studio.

This month in our Creativebug Club, we will learning the basics about collage with Stephanie in the Idea Studio while also watching some clips and videos about collage on Creativebug.

We will talk about gathering your materials to building a base layer to adding decorative elements. You will have time to make serval collage masterpieces of your own during this event.

This is a perfect class for beginners and those who want to tap into their creativity—in fact, the hardest part about collage is learning how to narrow down your materials and use your “editing eye” to make sure all of the elements work together. We will provide all of the supplies, but you are welcome to bring in extra materials for collaging (glue, paper, magazines & books) if you would prefer using your own materials.

This event is open to patrons 13 years and older. Registration is required for each person joining this class, so please sign up to reserve your spot. If you are unable to attend, please contact the library to cancel your seat so that other patrons a chance to join the class.

You can sign up via the library calendar or find our calendar through our page www.fdlpl.org/idea-studio/
