Fond du Lac School District Achieves "Exceeds Expectations" Rating on 2024-25 State Report Card

We are proud to share that the Fond du Lac School District has earned an overall rating of Exceeds Expectations, a significant milestone not reached since the 2016-17 school year.

These results reflect the dedication of our students, educators, and staff, and validate our strategic investments in updated curriculum, training, and a new data-driven approach.

Key Achievements:
* District Rank: Improved to 175 out of 420 Wisconsin school districts.
* School Performance: 13 of our 14 schools are rated "Exceeding" or "Significantly Exceeding Expectations".
* Noteworthy Gain: Parkside Elementary moved from "Meeting Few Expectations" in 2020-21 to "Significantly Exceeding Expectations" in 2024-25, achieving the highest score in our District.

While we celebrate this momentum, our commitment to ensuring every student thrives is unwavering. We thank our community for their continued partnership in changing outcomes for our students.

Please vote “yes” for the Fond du Lac School District Referendum. Our teachers and staff are doing great work in the district to bring us from the bottom 11% in the state to the TOP 50% in just 3 years. Our work is not done and we want to continue to climb. The link will give more information on the “why” for the need of additional funds.

In summary, we have to move $12 million a year from our general fund budget to help fund “state mandated special educational services”. The state only helps pay $.30 on the $1.00 to fund them. WI is the lowest reimbursement rate IN THE COUNTRY for special education. We are also over $3,300 per pupil under funded on the initially implemented revenue caps that were set in place back in the ‘90’s because our state decided to stop doing CPI inflationary increases back in ‘08. With roughly 6,400 students, that is roughly $21 million less per year than where we would be.

These 2 funding shortfalls from the state would MORE THAN solve our revenue issues in Fond du Lac and across the state. We are asking for $10 million a year which includes a little more than $1 million a year for security upgrades, which is fraction of what the shortfalls. We have a statewide funding issue in education……not an expense issue right now. We will continue to manage expenses and look for efficiencies to lower expenses even if the referendum passes. This is a continual process and will never end, just like in business. I will follow this up with a couple more slides to support everything I just said. Thank You for your support.

Don’t forget, absentee ballots can be received until 8p on April 1st. If voting in person, polls are open from 7a-8p. Please visit myvote.wi.gov for more information.

Engagement and collaboration between public entities is great for Fond du Lac and a way to help our community come together and make it a better place for the citizens we serve.

The Fond du Lac School District announced on Tuesday that they will use referendum funds to pilot AI software in security cameras that will be placed at new secure entrances to the high school.

Matt Steinbarth and I were in Madison today talking to legislators about public school funding. Thank You Jerry O’Connor for your time and open discussion on the academic success we are having here in Fond du Lac along with the funding challenges to continue our successes.

Over the last few years, Fond du Lac School District has been able to put the “systems” in place for student achievement with investing in the proper support and training for our teachers and leaders. With that said, at the end of the day, the teachers are the ones who had to embrace and execute the “systems” our district has built. None of this would have happened without the hard work, heavy lifting, and dedication our teachers did in the classroom every single day for our students and helping them achieve these great results. Thank You to every staff member in the Fond du Lac School District who had a part in this great success.
