Ridley Township Board of Commissioners

Ridley Township Board of Commissioners Welcome to the official page for the Ridley Township Board of Commissioners. The population in 1870 was just over 1100 people.

Ridley Township was first settled in 1643 by the Swedes in what is now Tinicum Township. The name Ridley was first used in 1687 named by John Simcock, a large landowner for his village in Cheshire, England. Tinicum township left Ridley in 1790, and for the next 80 years, it was mostly farmland with some mills and quarry operations. A new railroad line, the Darby improvement came through in 1872, e

stablishing the towns of Eddystone, Ridley Park, Prospect Park, Norwood, Glenolden, and Rutledge. All of these towns left Ridley Township between 1887 and 1894. Ridley Township encompasses the following towns and communities, which are all part of the township, and are known by locals as Ridley, as they share the same taxes, school district, library, police department located in Folsom: Crum Lynne, Folsom, Holmes, Leedom, Milmont Park, Secane, Swarthmorewood, and Woodlyn. Ridley Township is in southeastern Delaware County, northeast of Chester and southeast of Media, the county seat. The borough of Rutledge is in the northern part of the township but is a separate municipality. The unincorporated communities of Folsom and Woodlyn occupy the central and western parts of the township, respectively.

Please see the attached update from 8th Ward Commissioner Michael D. Capozzoli regarding the Central Delaware County Authority sewer relining project in the Mitchell Avenue and Agnes Avenue area.

Key clarification from CDCA: residents CAN use water during the work, but usage must be limited. Flushing toilets and brushing teeth are fine. Avoid running the dishwasher or doing laundry, which risks a sewer backup.

SAK Construction will place door hangers a couple of days before work begins near your home, and the work may wrap up sooner than the stated 36 hours.

Full details in both letters attached. Questions? Contact CDCA at 610-544-9944.

Important Update from Commissioner Michael Capozzoli for Residents in the Mitchell Avenue and Agnes Avenue Area

I am aware of the notice that residents in the Mitchell Avenue and Agnes Avenue area have received from SAK Construction regarding the upcoming sanitary sewer repairs. This work is being performed on sewer infrastructure owned and operated by the Central Delaware County Authority.

I understand the concerns many residents have about the extent of the inconvenience the letter states. While this work is necessary to maintain and improve critical infrastructure, it is important that the project be completed in a way that minimizes disruption to our neighborhood.

To address these concerns, I have contacted the Township Engineer and Township Administration and asked them to work directly with SAK Construction to explore solutions that will better accommodate affected residents throughout the project.

Please know that I am actively monitoring the situation and advocating on behalf of our residents. I will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as these necessary improvements are completed. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at 610-842-5458.

I will keep residents updated as I receive additional information.

Commissioner Michael D. Capozzoli

After 12 years of dedicated service to the residents of Ridley Township, we extend our deepest thanks to 3rd Ward Commissioner Betsy Cummins on her retirement. Betsy's commitment, leadership, and care for our community have made a lasting impact, and her contributions will continue to benefit the Ward for years to come.

Congratulations to Michelle Callahan, who was sworn in tonight as our new 3rd Ward Commissioner. Michelle brings a strong record of community leadership to the role, including her work with the Edgewood Home and School Board, where she helped raise over $200,000 to build an inclusive playground, and her role as co-founder and Vice President of the Ridley High School PTO. She also serves on the Parish Pastoral Council at St. Madeline's Church and supports the Ridley High School Girls Soccer Boosters.

We look forward to working alongside Michelle as she begins this next chapter of service.💚

Wawa turned 62 on Thursday, and we are proud it all started right here in Ridley Township.

Township Manager Joe Ryan and Commissioners Pat McMenamin, Rick Saraceni, Michael Capozzoli, and Steve Bidoli stopped by Wawa Day to help celebrate 62 years since the very first Wawa opened in Folsom, PA on April 16, 1964.

From a single store to more than 1,200 locations across 13 states, Wawa has stayed true to its roots and its commitment to giving back. Congratulations to the team on reaching $200M in charitable giving through The Wawa Foundation.

Here is to the next 62 years.
