Introducing… Freya! ❤️

Many ‘Thank you’s’ to everyone who voted. We raised over $1,700 for the care of our new wolf-hybrid with over 870 votes for the name Freya.

Freya is settling in well at the wolf-hybrid exhibit and has begun to explore the large area of the habitat. The animal care team is monitoring interactions between Freya and Draco and we hope to begin further introductions soon.

Sand Cat, Omar, would like to remind everyone that the animals may not be visible in hot weather so plan to visit early, when the weather is cool. 🐱

As a sanctuary facility, we provide our animals with free choice – meaning they have access to an area of public view and an area out of sight. When the weather heats up, some animals may choose to stay in their cool hideaways and rest.

Member Mornings are back! Our next Member Morning will be Saturday, September 12 at 8am.

Following the success of our first “Member Morning”, we plan to continue this unique perk every 2nd Saturday of the month, excluding special events or poor weather.

As a reminder, “Member Mornings” allow Friends of the Folsom Zoo members to enter the zoo one hour before the public for a semi-private admission experience with cooler weather and fewer crowds.

To apply for a membership, check out our website: https://folsomzoofriends.org/join/

Black bear, Herbie, is foraging for browse! 🌳

Browse is a general term for edible plants and trees. The zoo has many browsable plants onsite that can be freshly cut for our animals. Sometimes, the animals prefer to get it themselves!

Masters of camouflage! 🍂

As the fall months approach, our mule deer, like Tule, may be harder to spot in their large habitat. Their tawny coat helps them blend into their surroundings and go virtually undetected. The best time to see the deer herd is the early morning at their feed station by the wolf-hybrids.

Help our hungry bears!

🐻 Our bears are in hyperphagia, their natural preparation for winter, when they eat more and pack on extra pounds. One of their favorite fall foods? Acorns!

We would love our community's help keeping our bears happy! If you have acorns to spare, please donate them to the zoo sanctuary.

📍 Where to drop them off:
- At the zoo entrance during regular operating hours
- At our kitchen door, across from the log cabin near the train station outside the zoo

Please do not donate acorns that have been treated with pesticides.

Every acorn helps! Thank you for helping give our bears a tasty boost as they prepare for winter.
