Rob and Aspen Carroll personally and also the members of the Hooverson Heights Fire Department, myself and the officers and members of the Follansbee Fire Department and City of Follansbee Administration wish to extend to you our deepest sympathies upon the passing of Retired Chief Bob Carrol.

As a young fire chief in 1980 and early through my career I had the opportunity to work alongside, learn from and be mentored by a handful of great men in the local fire service. Men that were dedicated to their communities and served the citizens tirelessly throughout their years. These men have all passed on. Jack Stankiewicz, Mario Sciarretti, Bud Reese, Ron Recchio, Weno Kinns and now Bob Carroll. I’d like to be a fly on the wall to hear the conversations from this crew.

Congratulations Dameon Rea, I cannot be prouder of you along with John Anthony Casinelli and Melissa Kafton. They completed the live fire training portion of the Firefighter 1 class today at the Wheeling Fire Department’s live burn training complex sponsored by West Virginia Public Service Training. You all are working hard training and studying, keep up the excellent work you’re almost finished.

Look what I bought today, saved it from the crusher at Jacks Recycling in Mount Morris, Pa. With the help of a friend Robert Gaffney, the truck was located in a collection owned by Harold Berthy of Morgantown, WV. Robert had contacted me a while ago about the truck’s location and I had made contact but to no avail, the answer was always the truck was not for sale. The Berthy family finally decided to auction off all the trucks and antique collectables that Herald had amassed at an auction a couple months ago. I could not make it but followed the auction and contacted Jacks Recycling (thanks to Bob Fowler) and after some negotiating, I purchased the truck. The price was right, so it was not crushed for scrap as it was purchased for and lost forever. Another piece of Follansbee FD history saved.
