Thank you to our colleague Professor Yi-Nian Lee from the Overseas Chinese University in Taichung, Taiwan, and his enthusiastic students Tim, Kevin, and Jackson for presenting our most recent international collaborative workshop. Professor Hsing-Lih Chou helped launch this collaboration 15 years ago, and eager students from the university applied to come to NYC. As part of their program, they present a workshop on Asian arts and culture at FTH. We hope you join us again next summer for another exciting workshop!

⚡ PAHUA IS COMING TO NEW YORK ⚡

Flushing Town Hall is happy to announce that Pahua will be performing at our historic theater on September 24!

Hailing from Mexico City, Pahua is a singer, producer, and DJ who mixes Caribbean and folkloric beats with electronics and percussions from all over the world. With early roots as a Mariachi singer, she is a rising star of the Latin Wave and co-founder of the neocumbia experimental Sotomayor, a music project she started with her brother. Her solo work twists traditional Latin rhythms with subtle electronics, drawing from Brazilian funk, dancehall, South American folkloric music, cumbia, Afrobeat, kuduro, and dembow. Her voice floats between airy whispers and commanding leads, inviting listeners into a deceptively complex aural world of self-love and empowerment.

Doors open at 6:30 PM where we will have special pre-show talk. Join us for this incredible concert as Pahua’s music will keep you on your feet all night long! Mexican eats will also be available. 🌸

QWANQWA turned our stage into a night in Addis Ababa — and we caught it on camera.

Founded by violinist Kaethe Hostetter, this Ethiopian supergroup blends rock, psychedelia, and traditional East African rhythms into something that feels like the Golden Age of Ethiopian music happening live in front of you. Masinko, krar, kebero, violin, and vocals — five musicians, one unmistakable sound.

We're still buzzing from last Friday's Summer Artist Party! 🥳 This night was all about celebrating the artists of Queens, creating more opportunities to connect, and providing them with resources that would make being an artist a little easier - whether that's leaving the night with a new headshot, taking home some new art supplies, or adding yourself to our new artist directory! 🎨🌐

A special THANK YOU to Argenis Apolinario for the free artist headshots, the Spare Arts team at qnscollaborative for the art supply swap and for providing our guests with art supply kits, Mobile Print Power for the screen-printing workshop, the designers of the Queens Culture Connect, Ouss Ouadani and Nolen Phya, for presenting our new artist directory and updated Queens Arts & Culture Map, and Fabio Puentes y su Tremendo Lío for ending the night on such a high note! Last but not least, thank you to SingleCut Beersmiths QNS for generously providing us with delicious beers for the night! 🩷🎉

Our party wouldn't have been possible without all of the amazing groups that participated and continue to serve and uplift artists outside of our event. 🫶🌟

Galapagos Puppet Theater brings The Blazing Fire Mountain and Its Princess, A Monkey King Tale to Flushing Town Hall on Saturday, September 19. This beloved episode from the 400-year-old Chinese epic “Journey to the West” follows Monk Tang and his disciples as they use transformation, persuasion, and puppet martial arts to win back the one thing that can save their journey.

The story comes alive with live music on erhu, p**a, guzheng, and percussion from celebrated folk musician Jimmy Zhao, who has spent over 30 years bringing Chinese folk music to audiences across the U.S.

There will be two shows, 11 AM and 2 PM, with a Q&A in Chinese at the 2 PM performance featuring a master of Taiwanese puppetry. A meaningful outing for adults and kids alike, or anyone who would love to see this centuries-old art form up close.
