☀️ **HEAT ADVISORY CONTINUES THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING**

The dangerous heat continues across our area today and into Friday.

According to the latest update from the National Weather Service in Louisville, afternoon temperatures will climb into the **mid-to-upper 90s, with some locations near 100°F**, and heat index values may reach **100–107°F**. Overnight temperatures will remain warm, providing very little relief.

Please take the heat seriously:

💧 Drink water often — don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
❄️ Spend time in air conditioning when possible.
🌳 Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
👷 If you must work outside, take frequent breaks in the shade and hydrate often.
👶👵 Check on children, older adults, and others who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
🚗 **Never leave a child, vulnerable adult, or pet inside a parked vehicle.**

The NWS HeatRisk forecast shows **major heat-related impacts across much of our region today and Friday**, especially for anyone without adequate cooling or hydration.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for one another.

🧰 BUILD YOUR EMERGENCY KIT

September is National Preparedness Month—a good time to make sure your household is ready for emergencies that could interrupt power, travel, or communication.

Prepare at least three days of essential supplies for everyone in your home:

💧 One gallon of water per person, per day
🥫 Nonperishable food and a manual can opener
🔦 Flashlight and extra batteries
📻 Battery-powered or hand-crank weather radio
🩹 First-aid supplies and necessary medications
🔋 Phone chargers and backup power
📄 Important documents, local maps, and some cash
🐾 Food, water, and medications for pets

Store everything where it can be reached quickly, check expiration dates regularly, and make sure everyone knows where the kit is kept.

A little preparation today can help families throughout Floyd County, Lafayette Township, and Greenville Township face the unexpected with confidence.

Introducing Inside Highlander Fire

We’re excited to share the first edition of Inside Highlander Fire, our new monthly look at the people, training, equipment, and work happening throughout the Highlander Fire Department.

In our August 2026 episode, we take you inside a busy month that included specialized rescue and firefighting training, an update from the Highlander Medical Training Center, improvements at Station 3, a look at our response numbers, and the introduction of our newest ambulance, Squad 2.

Our goal is simple: give our community a closer look at what happens inside Highlander Fire — both during emergency calls and behind the scenes.

We hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch, and we’d love to hear what you think.

☀️ HEAT ADVISORY — DANGEROUS HEAT THIS WEEK

A Heat Advisory is in effect for southern Indiana from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday evening, with temperatures climbing into the mid-to-upper 90s and heat index values potentially reaching 100–107°F.

The heat will build through the middle of the week, and conditions could remain dangerously hot into Friday.

During this stretch of extreme heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks.
🌳 Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
❄️ Spend time in air conditioning whenever possible.
👵 Check on older adults, children, neighbors, and anyone without reliable cooling.
🚗 Never leave a child, vulnerable adult, or pet in a parked vehicle — even for a few minutes.
👷 If you work outside, use shade, hydration, and regular rest periods.

Warm overnight temperatures will also limit how much relief we get between hot days, so take the heat seriously even if you normally tolerate summer weather well.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and keep an eye on updated forecasts from the National Weather Service in Louisville.
