Six FMFD personnel went to Arkansas’s DeGray Lake this weekend to participate in the annual interagency boat school. Not only did crews work with our new Fire/EMS boat, they had to perform in various scenarios that included: a house boat fire with a victim, a wildland fire, emergency medical response, rescuing victims on structural roof tops and simulating cutting holes in the roofs to check for more victims, evasive boat maneuvers, fire streams, and accident scene preservation.

UPDATE (4:02 p.m.): All lanes of westbound Cross Timbers Road are now open.

---

ORIGINAL POST (1:21 p.m.): Heads up! FMFD personnel are on the scene of a gas leak at the 4000 block of Cross Timbers Road — just east of Bridlewood/Bruton Orand Boulevard — after a gas main was struck. At this time, both eastbound and westbound Cross Timbers Road are reduced to one lane while repairs are underway.

FMFD is monitoring air readings, and the leak is not currently considered a hazard to the surrounding area. If you have to travel this way, expect delays.

Last Thursday, we officially wrapped up our 2026 Citizens Fire Academy! 🚒🔥

Over the past 8 weeks, participants got a behind-the-scenes look at the fire service, along with hands-on training and experiences. We are beyond proud of this dedicated group of community members who stepped up to learn more about our mission, our challenges, and our commitment to keeping our community safe.

A huge THANK YOU to our instructors, firefighters, and support staff who helped make this program possible.

To our graduates: Welcome to the family! ❤️ Stay safe, stay connected, and keep spreading the fire safety message.

Around 3:30 this afternoon, FMFD was dispatched to a possible structure fire on Barkridge Trail. Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the roofline and declared a working fire. The occupants of the home evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival. FMFD contained the fire to the area between the first and second floors, the walls, and the chimney. Lightning is believed to have caused this fire and fortunately no injuries were reported.

Heads up that we have more potentially severe weather headed our way this afternoon and evening. As of right now, the timing for us to see storms is between 2-8 p.m. The greatest threat is large hail, but strong winds and tornadoes are possible as well.

As a reminder, we activate our outdoor warning sirens for:
🔈 Reported hail of 1.50” in diameter or greater (or smaller for areas or events where large numbers of people are outdoors).
🔈 Rotation in a dangerous cloud or a tornado.
🔈 Straight-line winds over 70 mph.

Outdoor warning sirens are meant to be heard... you guessed it... outdoors. To be notified inside or wherever you are, be sure to sign up for our emergency alerts at www.flowermound.gov/emergencynotifications.

Stay safe today!

Severe thunderstorms are expected today across much of North and Central Texas. Large hail greater than baseballs will be the primary threat. Be weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings! Stay safe today y'all!

A major storm system is moving south-southeast from Wise County toward Parker and Tarrant counties this evening.

You’ve probably been hearing the thunder tonight, but as of now, we expect the major impacts - like large hail or possible tornadoes - will stay south of us. Regardless, it’s important to make sure you are registered for emergency alerts (www.flowermound.gov/emergencynotifications).

As always, if a warning is issued for your area, take shelter immediately.
