💡 The Florence Urban Renewal Agency is proud to report that pedestrian lighting is going into the ReVision Florence Streetscape Corridor! 💡

The new pedestrian-scale light arms are going up on the light posts on Highway 101 between the Siuslaw River Bridge and the Highway 126 intersection. They will light up the sidewalks and help increase the safety, walkability, and accessibility of the ReVision Florence Streetscape Corridor.

Thank you to City of Florence Public Works and our electric contractors for installing these lights this week!

🔌⚠️ POWER OUTAGE: Some areas of the Florence community are experiencing a power outage this Sunday morning. CLPUD shares information on these outages on their page and website. Please monitor these for updates on the outage.

📲 PLEASE DO NOT call the 911 dispatch center or Police Department to inquire about the outage unless there is an emergency. The large amount of calls we are receiving just to report the outage reduces our ability to answer emergency calls. You can check the CLPUD website for updates and to report the outage. https://clpud.org/customer-information/outages/outage-map/

🚰 We are also aware that people are reporting lower water pressure. Public Works is evaluating these comments. There is no need to call dispatch at this point to report water pressure.

🚔🚨 During the outage, please use caution as traffic lights can be impacted. Currently, the 35th Street traffic light is out. The light is out and not flashing like we normally see during outages. Florence Police Officers are working the intersection and will be converting it to a four-way stop.

Please use caution in the area on this busy weekend.

The map below shows the general location of an outage and the number of customers without power. The map will not show specific addresses that are without power for safety...

May is Building Safety Month — a time to recognize the importance of safe, resilient buildings and the professionals who help keep our community protected every day.

Earlier this spring, the City of Florence City Council issued a proclamation recognizing Building Safety Month and the essential role building codes, inspections, and safety standards play in protecting lives, property, and our shared quality of life.

From homes and businesses to schools and public spaces, thoughtful planning and building safety practices help Florence remain a strong and resilient community for residents, visitors, and future generations alike. Thank you to the staff, contractors, design professionals, and emergency responders who help make that possible every day.

Economic Development Week recognizes the importance of strong local economies and the partnerships that help communities thrive. In Florence, that work continues through the City Council’s Economic Development Goal and Work Plan, which focuses on supporting projects and initiatives that strengthen our community and local economy.

One example is the ongoing childcare work led by Economic Development Analyst Chantelle Meyer, helping address an important workforce and family support need in Florence. Expanding access to childcare supports working families, local employers, and long-term economic vitality.

The City of Florence remains committed to thoughtful, community-focused economic development efforts that support residents, businesses, and future opportunities alike.

The City of Florence is celebrating May 17 to 23 as National Public Works Week. The 2026 theme is “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community.”

The roots of service run deep in public works. It’s what has propelled public works innovations that have helped our communities evolve into places where people can lead lives of purpose and possibility. Some work — like improving parks, paving streets, and installing public art — is highly visible, while other public works contributions — like managing water and sewer systems — are sometimes hidden from view. Together, these efforts form the foundation of thriving communities, reminding us that every project, seen or unseen, powers the connection between service and the people it supports.

The theme “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community” reminds us that public works professionals are motivated to serve the communities that they love and that power them to always do their best. Whether serving as first responders, responding to utility outages, or making roads and sidewalks passable after a weather event, public works puts service at the forefront for their community.

Thank you to the City of Florence's dedicated Public Works team! They really do keep Florence “A City in Motion.”
