Road Closure Advisory

Wedgefield Road is currently closed between Pine Needles Road and Blitsgel Drive for an undetermined period after a tree fell and struck power lines.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation and Duke Energy are on scene working to remove the tree, repair the damaged power lines, and restore the roadway. There is also a power outage affecting the surrounding area.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek an alternate route until the roadway is reopened. Please use caution if traveling near the scene and follow the directions of emergency personnel.

At approximately 8:05pm, E-211 and Rescue 213 were dispatched to the intersection of West Palmetto Street and Old Ebenezer Road for the report of a three-vehicle motor vehicle collision with entrapment.

Upon arrival, firefighters located three vehicles involved in the crash with one occupant trapped inside a vehicle. Crews quickly stabilized the vehicles and safely extricated the trapped occupant. All individuals involved in the collision sustained minor injuries and were evaluated by Florence County Emergency Medical Services.

As a result of the incident, two lanes of West Palmetto Street and Old Ebenezer Road were temporarily closed while emergency personnel worked to treat patients, remove the vehicles, and clear the scene. Motorists are urged to use caution and seek alternate routes until the roadway is fully reopened.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Engine 211 and Rescue 213 were dispatched to the 157-mile marker of Interstate 95 for the report of a single-vehicle rollover collision.

Upon arrival, crews found that the vehicle had left the roadway, overturned, and came to rest with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters immediately began extrication operations and successfully freed the occupant from the vehicle.

Once the driver was extricated, personnel from Florence County Emergency Medical Services assumed patient care and transported the individual to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is on scene and is investigating the cause of the collision.

At approximately 7:10 p.m., Florence County Fire Rescue Engine 211 was dispatched to the intersection of Old Ebenezer Road and Popular Chase Lane following reports of a motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a four-vehicle collision involving multiple occupants. A total of six individuals sustained injuries. Florence County Emergency Medical Services is on scene evaluating and treating the injured parties.

As a result of the crash, Old Ebenezer Road is currently closed between West Palmetto Street and Ebenezer Road. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while emergency personnel work to assist patients and clear the scene.

This remains an active incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Civil Air Patrol Cadets Receive Hands-On Firefighting Training with West Florence Fire-Rescue

FLORENCE, S.C. — Cadets from the Florence Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol recently participated in an interactive firefighting training exercise hosted by West Florence Fire-Rescue, providing them with valuable insight into the skills and equipment used by today’s firefighters.

Throughout the training, cadets received classroom instruction and participated in hands-on drills designed to introduce them to fundamental firefighting techniques. Under the guidance of experienced West Florence Fire-Rescue firefighters, the cadets learned proper hose line advancement, ground ladder raises, forcible entry techniques, and the operation of basic firefighting equipment.

The cadets also received instruction on the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), gaining an understanding of the protective equipment firefighters rely on when operating in hazardous environments. Following the instruction, participants had the opportunity to apply what they learned during practical training evolutions.

“This type of training gives cadets a firsthand look at the dedication, teamwork, and technical skills required in the fire service,” said a West Florence Fire-Rescue representative. “We are proud to partner with the Civil Air Patrol to provide meaningful educational experiences that may inspire the next generation of first responders.”

The training reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to leadership development, emergency services education, and community preparedness. By working alongside professional firefighters, the cadets gained valuable experience while building confidence, discipline, and an appreciation for public service.

West Florence Fire-Rescue appreciates the enthusiasm and professionalism demonstrated by the Florence Composite Squadron cadets and looks forward to future opportunities to work together in preparing young leaders for service to their communities.

UPDATE:

At approximately 1:50 p.m., Engine 211 was dispatched to the intersection of Ebenezer Road and West Palmetto Street following reports of a motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle. After assessing the scene, crews determined that the motorcycle had collided with the vehicle, resulting in the rider being ejected and sustaining serious injuries.

Florence County Emergency Medical Services personnel provided advanced medical care at the scene before transporting the injured rider to a local hospital for further treatment.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.

At approximately 6:10 a.m., Engine 221 was dispatched to Hoffmeyer Road following reports of a motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, crews located a single-vehicle accident in which the driver had left the roadway and struck a retaining wall. Firefighters assessed the scene and confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

Cleanup efforts for this collision are now complete, all lanes of Hoffmeyer Road are now open.

🚒 Junior Firefighters Participate in Search and Rescue Training 🚒

Recently, members of the West Florence Fire-Rescue Junior Firefighter Program participated in hands-on search and rescue training designed to build the skills needed for a successful transition into the fire service.

During the training evolution, junior firefighters utilized self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and were tasked with conducting an interior search of a residential structure to locate a simulated victim. To create a realistic training environment, instructors filled the structure with artificial smoke generated by a fog machine, significantly reducing visibility and simulating the challenging conditions firefighters often encounter.

The training was monitored and recorded using a thermal imaging camera, allowing instructors to evaluate the students’ performance and provide valuable feedback. Throughout the exercise, participants worked together to conduct an organized search while emphasizing key firefighting principles, including teamwork, communication, accountability, and staying together as a crew.

These training evolutions are critical in preparing our junior firefighters for future service and helping bridge the gap between the Junior Firefighter Program and becoming a certified firefighter at age 18.

We are proud of the dedication, professionalism, and hard work demonstrated by these young men and women as they continue their journey in the fire service. 🚒👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At approximately 5:20 p.m., Engine 211 responded to Cottonwood Drive after receiving a request for assistance involving a trapped dog underneath a storage building.

The caller contacted the fire station after being unable to safely remove the dog from beneath the structure. Upon arrival, firefighters assessed the situation and began carefully removing sections of the building’s underpinning to create a safe path for the K-9 to escape.

Crews were able to successfully free the dog without injury. After confirming the dog was not in distress, firefighters cleared the scene with out incident.

At approximately 10:35 PM, Engine 211 was dispatched to the intersection of US Highway 76 West and Bancroft Road following reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Units arrived on scene and located one pedestrian suffering from serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Personnel from Florence County Emergency Medical Services arrived shortly thereafter and assumed patient care before transporting the patient to an area hospital for further treatment.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene due to reports of disorderly individuals in the area. Firefighters assisted with traffic control and scene safety operations while emergency personnel worked on scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded and is investigating the cause of the collision.
