How it all started!

Thursday!

Have you ever heard of the U.S. Coast Guard Temporary Reserve?

After the Suprise attack on the U.S. Naval base Pearl Harbor Hawaii in 1941 the United states was at war and the U.S. Coast Guard was soon forced into a wartime stance and hurting for manpower to protect the vast Coastlines of the United States. Out of this need for coast guardsmen with military authority (which the Auxiliary could not fill due to its non-combatant status) came the Temporary Reserve made up of Sailors who could be armed to defend against U-boats and provide security for shore installations among many other tasks. In all 125,000 personnel would serve in its ranks by the end of the second world war.

Sun and Fun on the Siuslaw

The weather was perfect while we conducted Helicopter Operations with Air Station North Bend on Friday afternoon. As the helo followed us overhead a rescue basket was dropped to the deck of the boat and hauled back up. This was performed a handful of times. The only “rain” we received was the rotor wash that drenched everything! It was a fun day for all involved and the training went without a hitch.
