Toys and books aren't just "extras." They help children learn, explore, build confidence, and develop skills that carry with them into school and beyond. Many children entering foster care haven't always had access to age-appropriate toys or books.

So when we had the honor of giving a 16-year-old girl her very first baby doll, it was a reminder of just how meaningful something so simple can beđź’›

Foster Family Spotlight: Lelia Jacobo

Lelia began fostering in 2021, and since then, she has welcomed nearly 30 children into her home. Her reason for starting is simple: she knows there are children who have experienced things no child should have to go through, and she wants to do whatever she can to help.

For Lelia, one of the most rewarding parts of fostering is being there for a child and watching them smile, no matter what they’ve been through. She believes every child deserves a place they can call home and someone to show them what love feels like.

Her advice to anyone considering foster care? “Give a child a chance.”

There are children waiting for someone to open their home, their heart, and their life to them. Could that someone be you? đź’™ Contact [email protected] to learn more

Last week, Heather and Nicole from the Foster Care Clothing Closet returned to the State House, joined by Jennifer Danford with The Jade Bridge to continue working alongside advocates and community leaders on the bill that will be presented for consideration this fall.

Those in attendance included SCYAP representatives from around the state, the University of South Carolina, the state Director of DSS and many other children's advocate as they worked together to fine-tune the bill and advocate for meaningful change for children and families in foster care.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of these conversations and to stand alongside so many who are committed to creating better outcomes for South Carolina’s children💙

Our building is more than four walls. It’s a place where children in foster care are welcomed with dignity, care, and compassion. And every bit of it is possible because of a community that believes they deserve to be seen and supported.

When you give to our Building Hope Fund, you're helping reduce our mortgage so more of every dollar can go directly toward meeting the needs of the children and families we serve.

If you'd like to help build hope alongside us, you can give here:
