This coming September 11, 2026 will be the 25th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attacks ever committed on US soil and in world history. 2,977 innocent people died in the terrorist acts that day with 2,753 people in New York City, 184 people at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and 40 people at Shanksville, PA. 343 Firefighters of the FDNY, 23 Police Officers of the NYPD, and 37 Officers of the Port Authority died attempting to save lives in the performance of their sworn duty.

Like many events in history time tends diminishes their historical importance and impacts. While many of us can still remember where we were that day and moment, we need to ensure that we pass those memories on to future generations.

9,130 days will have past and approximately 100 million Americans have born comprising of 30% percent of the US population since that tragic day.

**BACKPACK GIVE AWAY **
Our Amazon partners from ABE8 will be distributing backpacks at the Florence Township Fire Department Thursday August 27th between 4:30 and 6:30 pm.

The backpacks will have note books, pens, pencils, rulers, crayons, calculators, and more!

Come over to the fire house for school supplies and meet the firefighters, EMTs, and Amazonians.

The number one cause of line of duty deaths of firefighters and EMT's is from sudden cardiac events and overexertion. The trend continues in 2026 as the majority of deaths are health related. The district's heath and wellness program has added a six week fitness program approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners continuing the board's support of firefighter heath and fitness. The program was developed by Peak Response Strength & Conditioning.

The program included a lecture seminar on health & wellness for Firefighters & EMT's delivered at the department's weekly training night. Peak Response Strength & Conditioning developed daily workouts to be performed by firefighters and EMT's for each week. The program includes a weekly session with Peak's certified fitness trainer. August 19th was the first department workout with Peak Response pictured are the firefighters and EMT's who participated.

The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) provided training to the fire department. The training provided an overview of operations of Sprinkler and Standpipe systems. The classroom portion instructed firefighters on operations during incidents . Firefighters had an opportunity to have a hands on portion of the class with the NFSA sprinkler/standpipe trailer. Florence Firefighters are always training to improve their ability to protect the lives and property of the Florence Township community.
