As summer gets underway, we're reminding parents that the City of Florence has a curfew ordinance for minors 15 years old and younger.

We have responded to an increased number of complaints involving young teens gathering late at night in parking lots, shopping centers, and other public areas. Many of these juveniles are coming from outside Florence.

Parents, please know where your children are, who they're with, and when they're expected to be home.

The curfew applies to all juveniles under 16 who are in Florence, regardless of where they live.

Our goal is simple: keep kids safe and help ensure our businesses and public spaces are enjoyable for everyone this summer.

Today, we remember Officer David Young — a servant to this community whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Officer Young wore the badge knowing it represented something far greater than himself: service, protection, and a willingness to stand between danger and the people of Florence. That commitment is the foundation of this profession, and it is a legacy that continues to live on within this department today.

During Police Memorial Week, we pause to honor those who gave everything in the line of duty. Not just for the way they died, but for the way they lived — answering calls for help, showing up on difficult days, and carrying the weight of responsibility so others could feel safe.

Behind every badge is a heartbeat. A life devoted to service. A sacrifice that forever changes a department and a community. Even years later, Officer Young’s heartbeat can still be felt in the pride, dedication, and resilience of those who continue the watch.

Officer David Young left a mark on the Florence Police Department that time will never erase. 💙
