Soroptimist International of Florence would like to give a sincere thank you to the many members of our community that helped make the 2024 Christmas Food Basket Project an amazing event. The 50th Annual Christmas Food Basket Project giveaway was held on Saturday, December 14th at Siuslaw Middle School. Soroptimist members, along with our over 100 volunteers, handed out food boxes and holiday cheer to 459 families representing over 2,200 people.

Soroptimist International of Florence has orchestrated this project for 50 years with support from local businesses, service clubs, churches, and the community at large to help families during the holiday season. This project is an excellent example of a community that cares!

The Florence community has always generously supported the Christmas Basket Project, making good intentions into great results. We have many individuals, businesses, and organizations that contribute towards making this event possible. We would like to send a special thank you to those that helped make 2023 possible through logistics, equipment, ordering food, moving food, and coordinating volunteers.

Each year, the Soroptimist International of Florence Club purchases the food that is distributed with the help of monetary donations from local organizations and individuals. For the 2024 giveaway, the food totaled approximately $40,000. Nearly all the food was given away on Saturday, with any leftover food being taken to Florence Food Share. It takes the community to make this event possible.

If community members are interested in contributing to the Christmas Food Basket Program fund to assist in cover the costs for this year and contributing towards next year, we encourage donations to be sent to Soroptimist of Florence (SI Florence) at PO Box 1209, Florence, OR 97439. Please note on the donation check that it is for the Christmas Basket Project. Monetary contributions may be tax deductible.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Soroptimist Bingo Fundraiser at Three Rivers Casino Resort! We had so much fun putting it on and appreciate all the donations towards our amazing Soroptimist programs and scholarships in the Florence area.

Over the past year, Soroptimist of Florence has given out $20,000 in scholarships, $35,000 in food to over 400 families at the Christmas Food Baskets event, and two $1,500 awards to our Live Your Dream winners. We also support other Florence activities through charitable giving, such as the Rhododendron Festival Court.
