Right now, our communities are being decided without us. Canvassing is how we take our power back. It’s how we have real conversations, reach our people, and make sure every voice is heard.

We need volunteers ready to show up, speak out, and move the city forward. No experience needed, just commitment to the community.

✊ Knock doors. Build power. Win together.

Did you know that earlier this year Governor Ivey passed Senate bill 102 also known as the Maternal Healthcare Act? It became effective at the first of this month but what does it mean? Pregnant Alabamians are able to receive healthcare for up to 60 days while their Medicaid approval is being processed, also known as "Presumptive Eligibility." What does this mean for the Shoals? There are places within the Shoals that accept Medicaid so if you are curious as to whether or not you are eligible ask your provider. Feel free to share the graphic below to those who might benefit from this information and new Senate bill!

No Kings Day rallies are just the surface, there is work to be done in community! Happy to see one of our community partners, Project Say Something, tagged in this list from the ACLU of Alabama's Executive Director.

So you attended a No Kings Rally– now what?

Following her remarks at the No Kings Rally in Birmingham on Oct. 18th, our Executive Director, JaTaune Bosby Gilchrist, penned a blog that lays out actionable next steps. Now is the time to channel our energy and focus, while following the lead of those who are already doing this work in community. On Saturday, October 18th, No Kings Day protests were held in multiple cities across the state including right here in Florence, AL. There were at least 15 cities just in Alabama alone that held these powerful protests. According to the No Kings organization, over seven million people gathered in protests across the country, the record thus far. Even though the protest is over, we can still carry the spirit of protesting with us and continue to fight for our democracy every day.

What to learn more about how State Legislature works? Tune in to The People's Classroom tomorrow night! This event hosted by Project Say Something will dive into how Alabama’s legislative sessions really works— who’s involved, how bills become laws, and how everyday people can make their voices heard.
https://www.facebook.com/share/17UDySLhG4/

Join us for our first class of The People's Classroom where we’ll be diving into how Alabama’s legislative sessions really work — who’s involved, how bills become laws, and how everyday people can make their voices heard.🗣

We’ll have two opportunities to join:
📍 Online: October 16 at 6PM (on Zoom)
📍 In-person: November 6 at 5PM (Handy Rec Center, Florence Al)

This is a space to learn, ask questions, and connect with others who care about justice and civic power.

Come be part of the conversation because democracy still belongs to the people.✊
