Burn Ordinance Notice

Date: May 4, 2026

To Our Community,

Mount Morris Township Fire Department, would like to remind all residents of the regulations regarding open burning within our township. Our priority remains the safety of our community, and proper adherence to burning guidelines plays a critical role in preventing fires and protecting property.

At this time, Mount Morris Township does not issue burning permits. Instead, the township operates under an established Burning Ordinance (Ordinance No. 09-01) which outlines what is permitted, restricted, and prohibited.

Under this ordinance, the following are strictly prohibited:
• Burning of yard debris such as brush, leaves, and trees
• Burning of household trash or refuse
• Burning of construction, demolition, or commercial materials
• Burning of tires, plastics, or hazardous/toxic materials
• Burning of automobiles or similar items

Allowed burning within the township includes:
• Recreational fires (such as fire pits) using seasoned dry firewood
• Outdoor cooking fires (grills, etc.) that are properly contained
• Small campfires that are controlled and do not pose a hazard

All approved burning must follow these safety requirements:
• Fires must be constantly attended until fully extinguished
• A water source or extinguishing method must be readily available
• Burning must be conducted in a safe, controlled manner
• Fires must not be used for waste disposal
• Burning is only permitted between 7:00 a.m. and midnight

Additionally, the Fire Chief or their designee has the authority to prohibit or extinguish any fire deemed unsafe due to weather conditions, excessive smoke, or hazardous circumstances.

Failure to comply with the township’s Burning Ordinance may result in enforcement action, including liability for costs associated with fire suppression.

We encourage all residents to follow these guidelines and reach out to Fire House #3 with any questions regarding open burning regulations.

We appreciate your cooperation and continued support in keeping the Beecher District and Mount Morris Township safe.

Sincerely,
Mount Morris Township Fire House #3
Beecher Fire District
Sergeant Moore

Leprechaun Activity at Fire house 3

Mt. Morris Twp., MI — In the early morning hours of St. Patrick’s Day, personnel at Fire Station 3 discovered a highly unusual and suspicious situation: all department apparatus have been mysteriously painted green overnight.

After a brief investigation (and several cups of coffee), it has been determined that a group of mischievous leprechauns unlawfully gained access to the station and carried out the repainting operation without authorization. No damage was reported, aside from a strong smell of fresh paint and an unexplained increase in “luck” around the bay.

Witnesses report seeing a small, red-bearded suspect in a green suit fleeing the scene with a pot of gold, last spotted sitting on the front bumper of Engine 31 before disappearing.

At this time, the leprechaun remains at large and is considered playful but elusive. The public is advised:
• Do not attempt to chase or capture the suspect
• Do not accept suspicious gold coins

Fire operations will continue as normal, although response times may be slightly delayed due to personnel admiring the new paint job.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the leprechaun is encouraged to contact Fire House 3… or simply leave out a bowl of Lucky Charms and hope for the best.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us at Mt. Morris Township Fire Department! 🍀🍀
