FOTA Friends of The Alley

FOTA Friends of The Alley Friends of the Alley was founded in 2010 to activate Downtown Flint’s alleyways and bring attention to these vibrant community spaces.

The mission of Friends of the Alley is to beautify and activate the alleys in Downtown Flint. We work to ensure that they are inviting, inclusive, and exciting pedestrian friendly spaces that enhance adjacent businesses, connect all parts of Downtown, and bring neighbors together. We envision a future where Flint residents from any part of our City come to Brush and Buckham Alleys to enjoy events

all year, relax in several welcoming pocket parks and public plazas along a well-lit and artistically accented space, and see these alleys as common shared public space welcoming to Flintstones of all backgrounds.

60 years ago construction was starting on Genesee Towers - slated to be Flint's tallest building. The anchor tenant was Genesee Merchant's Bank and Trust, but the sale of the bank to National Bank of Detroit meant the biggest tenant was entirely out of the building by 1997. Years of deferred maintenance, combined with poor construction materials, led to its demolition in 2013.

The Flint Art Walk happens in downtown Flint every 2nd Friday of the month.
If you are, or know anyone interested in displaying some of their work please contact us. This is a great way to network with your community and other artists from the area. We would love to help give you a platform to be discovered!
