Genesee County Sheriff Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division The Michigan Emergency Management Act stipulates that each county shall appoint an emergency coordinator to be responsible for disaster preparedness.

The Office of Genesee County Sheriff Emergency Management Homeland Security Division is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the community by preparing for, responding to, and recovering from all hazards and emergencies. The Emergency Management & Homeland Security Division is responsible for dealing with all aspects of disasters, including planning for major disasters which might aff

ect the County, and coordinating the recovery efforts following actual disasters. In Genesee County the Emergency Management Manager is responsible for the day to day activities of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Mitigation: Eliminate, reduce or prevent long-term risk to human life and property from natural and man-made hazards. Emergency Preparedness: Advance planning for an emergency that develops operational capabilities and facilitates an effective response in the event an emergency occurs. Emergency Response: Action taken immediately before, during or directly after an emergency to save lives, minimize damage to property and enhance the effectiveness of recovery. Recovery: Short-term activity to return vital life support systems to minimum operating standards and long term activity designed to return life to normal or improved levels. The Genesee County Emergency Management Division works closely with local first responder agencies, nonprofit disaster relief organizations, private, and governmental agencies regarding emergency planning, response and recovery for communities within GeneseeCounty. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon over Southeast Michigan. Wind gusts of 50-60 mph and localized heavy downpours are likely with the strongest storms. Main time window: 2-8 PM.

With a hard freeze expected tonight across all of southeast Michigan, take the steps to protect plants susceptible to freezing conditions. Freeze Warning is in effect for areas where the growing season has begun.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...All of southeast Michigan.

* WHEN...From 8 PM EDT this evening through late Thursday night.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- In the last 10 days, most of southeastern Michigan has seen 1.5 to 4.5 inches of rainfall which has saturated soils before the main spring green up. Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are likely starting this evening and continuing through Thursday evening. Over this span of time, an additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are expected with 3
to 4 inches possible in some areas dependent on thunderstorm coverage and tracks.
