“Passing the Gavel" is a time-honored ceremony in Rotary and it marks the official transition of leadership from the outgoing club president to the incoming president. The event honors the past year's accomplishments and welcomes the new president's vision. The Rotary Club of Fleming Island passed the gavel this morning and Bo Norton, District Governor, installed the 2026-2027 board with Catrine Fredrikson taking the incoming President’s pledge. Many thanks to Duane Mallicoat, Assistant District Governor, who was also in attendance and is there anything better than a pot luck? The food was simply delicious and the only thing better was the opportunity to socialize with so many who are dedicated to service above self!

Such an inspiring Club Assembly this morning at the Rotary Club of Fleming Island, Inc.! We “Pass the Gavel” this Saturday from 10AM-12 noon and there’s not a better brunch anywhere!!! Looking ahead, “Bring a Friend,” the most well attended meeting of the year, is August 19th and our guest speaker is Jeff Ettling, President and CEO, Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Duane Mallicoat, Assistant Area 3 Governor of Membership and Past President of the Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunrise, shared information about the Flags for Heroes event which publicly recognizes and gives thanks to those who gave their lives on September 11th, 2001. We next heard from Alleyna Jumani, the outstanding student we sponsored at RYLA this year. Alleyna was one of 95 students from District 6970 who participated in enriching and life-changing experiences at Stetson University. And finally, a reminder of our collection of school supplies through mid-July for the Clay Education Foundation. Garber Automall has donated a room for all of the supplies that are donated and where teachers can shop all year! And some very exciting news! The Club will be hosting Max, an exchange student from Denmark, who arrives in late July! A delicious breakfast from Chick-fil-A Eagle Harbor and remember “service above self - one profits most who serves best!”

The Gilded Age! A period in U.S. history from the late 1870s to the late 1890s, characterized by rapid economic growth, industrialization, and significant social issues, including political corruption and inequality. It was also a time characterized by the plumed hat which launched the millinery business and became a standard item for women’s daywear. Bob Scallan, VP of the Historical Society of Orange Park, transported us to the Gilded Age, an era when high fashion was a symbol of wealth, status, and social influence. We also enjoyed a delicious Chick-fil-A Eagle Harbor breakfast and hope you will join us at a future meeting!

The Rotary Club of Fleming Island, Inc. celebrated it’s 18th year this morning with a wonderful walk down memory lane. Such a great celebration of all the events and activities the Club has been involved with since it was chartered on May 22, 2008. Meetings were first held at Mojo's BBQ & Grill and one of the very first projects was providing dental services to the Bahamians in Andros, Bimini, and the Abacos. Club members taught dental hygiene, distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste and discovered some people did not know what dental floss was. Thank you to Chick-fil-A Eagle Harbor for the especially good breakfast and many thanks to our guests who shared in the celebration!🎉

Marsha Garcia, Founder and Senior Executive Director of Doctor Easy Medical Products, shared her “Confessions of an Accidental Business Owner” at this morning’s weekly meeting. Marcia’s business is based in Orange Park, and this business opportunity never knocked, it simply opened the door and walked right in. A special treat was the raffle for some of the gift items Marcia brought with her. And couldn’t resist this photo of our current president and our incoming president conferring about future plans! Many thanks to Chick-fil-A Eagle Harbor for the delicious breakfast!
