From our founder, Dr. Chanda Nicole Holsey...

Yesterday, I had the distinct privilege of serving as the guest speaker at the Green Cove Springs Head Start Center’s monthly parent meeting.

My assigned topic was “Help Kids Contribute in Ways to Be Helpful.”
However, during my devotion yesterday morning, the instructor spoke about leaving a legacy of kindness. That message resonated deeply with me, and I wove it into my parent talk by using the subtitle, “Developing a Legacy of Helpfulness.”

Here is an excerpt from my talk:
“Do you know what makes a person more likely to do kind, helpful things? Usually, it comes down to three things: what they see, what they’re taught, and how they feel in the moment. When kids feel safe and connected, they notice needs more quickly—and they’re more willing to help. When we model helpfulness and name it—‘Thank you for helping. That mattered.’—it becomes part of who they are. And the more we give them small opportunities to help each day, the more helping feels natural. In that way, we are leaving a legacy of helpfulness.”

The parents were participatory and engaged.

I am a proud Head Start alumni. I am grateful that God has chosen me to use my passion to educate underserved communities in public health and educational matters. I am also thankful that I can serve in maternal and child health both in my professional work and in our community. 💫🌞

Hello Everyone!

Having a doctorate in Maternal and Child Health means that caring for mothers and children—especially those who are under-resourced and most vulnerable—is not just my work, but my calling.

It has been a true labor of love to facilitate the development of this webinar focused on improving maternal health outcomes. If you have not registered already, I encourage you to do so—and please share this opportunity with the special women in your lives. This is one event you won’t want to miss!

Happy Black Maternal Health Week 2026!

📚 It’s Read Across America Week!

I had the privilege of participating in the Expo Hall at the screening of The Librarians on March 1st. It was a powerful reminder that literacy matters—and that access to books reflecting real‑life experiences truly makes a difference.
I’ve written a series of books to support families during military deployments. While deployments are no longer part of my family’s journey, many families are still living that reality, and these stories were created with them in mind.
If you know a family who could benefit from these books, please feel free to message me or drop a note. ❤️📖

Dr. Chanda Nicole Holsey, ECS4Kids Community Advisory Board Member, and her daughter, Erin, volunteered several hours together with other ECS4Kids supporters. They worked diligently to create a community garden at the West Side Head Start center.
..Together we're planting more than seeds — we’re planting hope and health!

Check out how our new West Side Community Garden came to life and how it’s helping families grow fresh food and learn lifelong skills.
