🚨 Technical Rescue Training in Action! πŸ”οΈπŸ”₯

Last week our crews ran realistic evening drills simulating the challenging rescue of a climber who took a significant fall. ⛰️

From land navigation using only GPS coordinates to locate the patient in difficult terrain 🧭🌲, to rapid assessment of multiple injuries 🩹, packaging, and a Stokes basket extrication up a difficult slope! πŸ’ͺ

This training directly prepares us for the many remote recreation areas across our district where access is tough and response times matter most. πŸš’ Our firefighters brought in the right EMS equipment & medications, treated the patient in the field, and safely removing them using our low-angle rope system. πŸͺ’

These hands-on sessions keep our skills sharp so we’re ready when the real call comes in. πŸ”₯πŸ‘

Keep swiping ➑️ to find out how you can adopt an adorable puppy! πŸ•πŸ˜

Thanks to our friends at the Shadows Foundation in Flagstaff β€” they currently have 19 adorable puppies and a couple of kitties ready for homes! ✨

It's a foster-based program (they're fostering all pets themselves until a facility is ready), so contact Charlotte at [email protected] 😊

(Quick note: our firefighters do NOT need homes πŸ˜‚ They’ve got a cozy station, meals & shiny trucks β€” living their best life! πŸš’πŸ˜Ž)

Who’s ready for a new furry best friend? Tag them! 🐾❀️

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Memorial Day 2026
Highlands Fire District

Today we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. ❀️

History: Born as Decoration Day after the Civil War, it began in 1868 to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. It became a national holiday in 1971 to remember all who died in military service.

As firefighters, we understand service and sacrifice. We stand grateful for those who protected the liberties we cherish. πŸ™

Fly the flag at half-staff until noon. Pause for the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 PM.

Thank you to all who served and their families. Your sacrifice is never forgotten.

This afternoon, Highlands Fire was dispatched to an ATV rollover off of Forest Road 535. Due to the nature of injuries and distance, Guardian Air Angel 7 was launched. Units responding included Guardian Medical Transport, GMT Battalion 5, CCSO, Engine 256 and Battalion 20. A landing zone was established and the patient was flown to FMC for further care. A big thank you to our partners that responded , allowing seamless and timely care for the patient.

🚨 Teamwork in Action on I-17 πŸšπŸš’

Yesterday, May 17, Highlands Fire District was dispatched to assist Pinewood Fire with a single-vehicle rollover near milepost 314 on I-17.

Engine 23 and Battalion Chief 20 arrived on scene to find the vehicle had rolled off the roadway and down into a drainage. While Pinewood Fire worked on extrication, HFD helped direct the safe landing of a Native Air medical helicopter right on the interstate for rapid patient transport. πŸ›¬β€οΈ

The single patient was safely transported to the hospital.

Our recent Guardian Air Landing Zone training proved extremely valuable on this call! βœ…πŸ’ͺ

This incident highlights why HFD is committed to ongoing training β€” both internally and with our regional partners. Multiple agencies worked seamlessly together under difficult conditions to provide extrication, medical care, and transport for the injured patient.

Strong partnerships = better outcomes for our communities! πŸ€πŸ™Œ

Thank you to Pinewood Fire, Native Air, and all personnel involved for your teamwork! πŸ‘πŸ”₯

πŸšπŸ›‘οΈ Highlands Fire District trains with Guardian Air Transport!

This week our crews joined Guardian Air Transport for a realistic simulated multi-patient UTV rollover involving pediatric trauma patients. πŸοΈπŸš‘

The drill included the landing of Guardian’s helicopter on scene, with Highlands firefighters assisting in the treatment and care of multiple pediatric trauma patients. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ©ΉπŸ‘¦

This valuable training strengthened our teamwork, enhanced our care for patients in rural areas, and improved our readiness for high-stakes helicopter landings and multi-patient scenarios. πŸ’ͺ✈️

Proud to train hard so we’re ready when it counts! πŸ”₯🚁
