Fire danger across all three of our districts remains VERY HIGH, and therefore, we remain in fire restrictions across the entirety of the Coconino National Forest.

There are 10 days left for public review and comment on the draft 2026 Coconino County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Public comments will be accepted through June 5, 2026.

The draft plan is available at coconino.az.gov/2474/Hazard-Mitigation-Plan

Public participation is a key component of the hazard mitigation planning process. Community members, businesses and interested stakeholders are encouraged to review the draft plan and provide feedback to help ensure it reflects local priorities, concerns and insights.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are now in effect for all unincorporated County lands within the boundaries of Coconino National Forest. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions continue for all unincorporated County lands within the boundaries of Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests.

During Coconino County Stage 1 Fire Restrictions:

🔥Igniting, building, maintaining or using a fire fueled by combustible materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes and/or coal is strictly prohibited, except within a developed site. LPG fueled stoves, grills, or fire rings with an on/off switch are allowed within a Developed Site.

🔥Smoking outdoors is also prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or a developed site. The use of tracer or incendiary rounds of ammunition or explosive targets is also strictly prohibited.

🔥The use of explosive targets, tracer rounds, or incendiary ammunition is prohibited.

✅A Developed Site must include a radius of 15 feet surrounding the fire and/or combustion site that is barren and cleared of vegetation and combustible materials. The area above the 15 foot radius must also be cleared.

The Coconino National Forests, Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, City of Flagstaff, City of Sedona, and State Trust lands, are under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Please check the appropriate jurisdiction for further fire restriction information on the area you are in, or will be recreating in.

Full-volume testing of the Museum Fire/ Spruce Wash flood area siren alerting system has been scheduled for Thursday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. The system is currently undergoing maintenance and the testing will confirm the proper functioning of the sirens ahead of monsoon season.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are now in effect for all unincorporated County lands within the boundaries of Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests and the community of Forest Lakes.

During Coconino County Stage 1 Fire Restrictions:

🔥Igniting, building, maintaining or using a fire fueled by combustible materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes and/or coal is strictly prohibited, except within a developed site.

🔥Smoking is also prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or a developed site. The use of tracer or incendiary rounds of ammunition or explosive targets is also strictly prohibited.

🔥Using a device that is solely fueled by pressurized liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed only in a developed site.

✅A developed site is defined in the County’s Wildfire Defense Ordinance as an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding vegetation and combustible materials within a 15-foot radius of the device.

This weekend, CCEM helped support NAU Police during NAU's Spring Commencement Ceremonies. CCEM deployed the County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) trailer to assist with situational awareness and crowd monitoring throughout the event, while drone operations provided aerial views of traffic flow, parking areas, and pedestrian movement to support coordination and public safety efforts.
