MARK A. Corporal Mark A. W.

When the American Legion Post #3, on West Birch Avenue in downtown Flagstaff, was chartered in 1919, it was named in honor of another name on the obelisk: Mark A. MOORE LAID AT REST ON SUNDAY There could be no thought of military honors in the burial of the heroes who fell in the Argonne Forest two and a half years ago. Fortunate indeed were the relatives of those dead who could be identified and

placed in graves sufficiently marked to show by whom they were occupied. Moore lost his life in the thick of battle. His remains were laid in their final resting place, here, in his home town, on Sunday. The funeral oration, the music, the flowers, the bugle's call, the final salute to the dead, though long deferred, were no less sincere and heart felt offerings in tribute to his heroic death. The Federated, Church was filled with Mark's former friends, friends of the family, and others who, though strangers, saw in the services an opportunity to show their sympathy and respect. The services were held at 2:30, Rev. H Zook delivering the funeral oration. The casket, draped with flags, had been brought to the church on a Battery “A” caisson. It was carried to the cemetery on the caisson, the procession including members of the American Legion, the United Spanish War Veterans and Battery “A” on foot, and the Woman's Auxiliary of the American Legion, in automobiles. The ceremonies at the grave were brief and included the firing of three volleys by the firing squad and the sounding of the bugle. Chase P. Heisser, commanding; Durward McKinney. Warren Sala, Remijius Hock, Orrin Compton, Elmer Jackson, Ray Prochnow, Amos Montano and Melville Mills. Moke Travis, who served on the border with Mark, was bugler. Lieutenant Francis A. Chisolm head general in charge of the arrangements, and Sergeant Macklin, of the caisson and horses. The pallbearers were Charles Nichols and Harry Wiltse, both of whom served on, the border with deceased, representing the army; Roger .Morse and Decker Williams representing the navy, and Frederick Browning and Dan Phelan, representing the marines.
