The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff!

This series continues on Wednesday, Dec. 17 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Granite Rapids Moon” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

The film’s writer/director Kenneth Cran and producer/actor John Charles Meyer will be here in person at Theatrikos to host the film and conduct a Q&A session after the screening.

A happily married father of two, shaken by a message written in a birthday card for his daughter, abruptly leaves his family for a week-long trek through the Grand Canyon. As we follow his solo hike, we see his memories of an earlier trip through the Grand Canyon with a different woman.

Shot with only the equipment that a cast and crew of eight could carry on two 41-mile hikes (one in 20-degree December and the other in 95-degree June), this family-friendly romantic drama is the first narrative feature to shoot the majority of its footage inside the rim of the Grand Canyon.

“Granite Rapids Moon” stars Brit Morgan, John Charles Meyer, Susan Papa, Etienne Eckert, Micah Cohen, KylieRae Condon and Missi Pyle. The film was written and directed by Kenneth Cran and produced by John Charles Meyer and Susan Papa.

“You cannot describe the experience of being in the Grand Canyon. You cannot; it's just that simple. Artists paint it, photographers photograph it, musicians create music inspired by it. And filmmakers have attempted to capture it cinematically. But to experience it, you have to be in it,” said writer/director Kenneth Cran.

“With ‘Granite Rapids Moon’, I hope some of those people who just make it to the rim and take a photo will see that the Grand Canyon is much more than a photo op; it's a place of epic sublimity that has changed and shaped people and their own stories.”

“Granite Rapids Moon” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members.

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff!

This series continues on Wednesday, Nov. 19 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Bill W. Conscious Contact” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

The film’s producer Jay Stinnett will be here in person at Theatrikos to host the film and conduct a Q&A session after the screening.

Winner of numerous awards at festivals around the world, “Bill W. Conscious Contact” is a new discovery about the man who started it all.

“Bill W. Conscious Contact” provides an intimate portrait of Bill Wilson — the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, and one of the great healers of the 20th century — by focusing on his personal quest as a spiritual seeker rather than on his more widely known public persona.

The film reveals Bill Wilson’s exploration of transcendental meditation at the end of his life. It includes an interview with Lincoln Norton, the man who taught Wilson transcendental meditation.

The documentary’s rare recordings, photos, and letters, many of which have never been seen before, also show Wilson to have been an open-minded and non-dogmatic pragmatist.

“Bill W. Conscious Contact” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members.

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff!

This series continues on Wednesday, Oct. 15 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Preserved” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

Filmmaker Ben Clark will be here in person at Theatrikos to host the film and conduct a Q&A session after the screening.

“Preserved” unveils Vermejo — a 558,000-acre living laboratory where rarely seen wildlife behaviors unfold: bears stealing mountain lion kills, microscopic life thriving in seasonal potholes, and animals adapting to a rapidly changing world. In this feature-length documentary, scientists, ranchers, and conservationists reveal how the seemingly impossible has been achieved here, from North America's largest native trout restoration to the return of beaver, elk, and bison. Rich in discovery and layered with human history, Vermejo stands as the pinnacle of conservation in the U.S. — and a bellwether for what’s possible elsewhere.

In 1996, media mogul Ted Turner purchased this vast expanse in northern New Mexico and launched an ambitious conservation vision. Vermejo’s iconic Park Plateau has been home to Indigenous communities, homesteaders, and roaming herds of bison and elk. In the 19th century, mining stripped the land, leaving scars that would take generations to heal.

Shot over more than 130 days, “Preserved” takes viewers deep into this breathtaking landscape, following the passionate stewards working to restore this thriving ecosystem. In an era of wildfires, drought, and species collapse across the American Southwest, Vermejo is living proof that restoration is not only possible — it’s happening. And it’s a blueprint for what comes next.

“Preserved” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members.

This series continues on Wednesday, Sept. 17 with the Flagstaff premiere of “A Little Prayer” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

Bill (David Strathairn) is a pillar of his Southern community: a business owner, a veteran, and the proud patriarch of an unruly but loving family.

His daughter Patti (Anna Camp) has returned home after the collapse of her marriage, while his son David (Will Pullen) struggles to stay afloat. He has brought David into the family business, but harbors doubts about his discipline and commitment. Bill gravitates towards Tammy (Jane Levy), his daughter-in-law and the only other person in his rambunctious household who values contemplation and repose.

When Bill begins to suspect that David may be straying from his marital vows with a coworker (Dascha Polanco), the father must confront the perplexing inscrutability of his son’s choices and their consequences for the rest of the family.

A heart-tugging drama about finding kindred spirits in unexpected places, “A Little Prayer” is a sensitive and searching portrait of an American family.

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff!

This series continues on Wednesday, Aug. 27 with the Flagstaff premiere of “The Last Class” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

“The Last Class” is a nuanced and deeply personal portrait of master educator Robert Reich teaching his final course and reflecting on a period of immense transformation, personally and globally. It is a love letter to education.

The former Secretary of Labor might be famous for his public service, best-selling books, and viral social media posts, but he always considered teaching his true calling. Now, after over 40 years and an extraordinary 40,000 students, Reich is preparing for his last class.

Over the course of the film, Reich confronts the impending finality, and his own aging, with increasing candor, introspection, and, ultimately, emotion. He displays a rawness of feeling he has never shared publicly before. Drawing on his lifetime in politics, he uses his class, “Wealth and Poverty,” to offer us all a deeper look at why inequalities of income and wealth have widened significantly since the late 1970s, and why this poses dangerous risks to our society.

One thousand students fill the biggest lecture hall on the UC Berkeley campus, the last class to receive Reich’s wisdom and exhortations not to accept that the world has to stay the way it is. His belief in the next generation’s ability to take on the fight is inspiring.

“The Last Class” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members.

This series continues on Wednesday, July 23 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Georgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

“Georgia O’Keeffe: the Brightness of Light” explores the life and art of the most important American woman artist of the 20th century.

Known as the “Mother of American Modernism,” O’Keeffe exploded on the New York art scene in the 1920s with her paintings of flowers, bones, and the beauty of nature. N**e photographs of O’Keeffe taken by her lover, Alfred Stieglitz, shocked the public and contributed to the perception that her paintings were sexually charged.

In the 1970s, O’Keeffe, famously isolated in the New Mexico desert, emerged as an iconic role model for second wave feminists.

From Academy Award-winning director Paul Wagner, the film features music by Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, narration by Hugh Dancy, and Claire Danes as the Voice of Georgia O'Keeffe.

“Georgia O’Keeffe: The Brightness of Light” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members.

This series continues on Wednesday, June 18 with the Flagstaff premiere of “No Other Land” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

“No Other Land” is the Academy Award winner for Best Documentary Feature and has won more than 50 major awards at prestigious film festivals around the world.

Basel Adra, a young Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta, has been fighting his community's mass expulsion by the Israeli occupation since childhood. Basel documents the gradual erasure of Masafer Yatta, as soldiers destroy the homes of families — the largest single act of forced transfer ever carried out in the occupied West Bank.

He crosses paths with Yuval, an Israeli journalist who joins his struggle, and for over half a decade they fight against the expulsion while growing closer. Their complex bond is haunted by the extreme inequality between them: Basel, living under a brutal military occupation, and Yuval, unrestricted and free.

This film, by a Palestinian-Israeli collective of four young activists, was co-created during the darkest, most terrifying times in the region, as an act of creative resistance to Apartheid and a search for a path towards equality and justice.

“The most urgent film of the year.” — Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair

“Audacious and devastating.” — Alissa Wilkinson, New York Times

“Concise, powerful and damning.” — David Ehrlich, IndieWire

This series continues on Wednesday, May 21 with the Flagstaff premiere of “The President’s Wife” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

Long the woman-behind-the-man, Bernadette Chirac (Catherine Deneuve) arrives at France’s presidential Elysée Palace in 1995 frustrated, and all but cast off by her newly elected husband, Jacques (Michel Vuillermoz).

Having worked in his shadow during his ascent to the presidency, Madame Chirac now expects to finally get the place in the political elite she believes she deserves.

In Léa Domenach's whip-smart feature film debut based on true events, Madame Chirac's rise from invisible political spouse to major media figure — as calculated as it was inevitable — is chronicled with equal parts reverence and wit, driven by Deneuve's wryly memorable central performance.

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff!

This series continues on Wednesday, April 16 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Bad Shabbos” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

“Bad Shabbos” was one of the top award-winning films at the recent Sedona International Film Festival, garnering the Directors’ Choice for Best Feature Comedy and rave audience reviews.

Audience Award Winner at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, "Bad Shabbos" is here to prove that even Shabbat can go haywire in this off-beat comedy. Directed by Daniel Robbins and co-written by Zack Weiner — and starring Kyra Sedgwick and David Paymer — this chaotic "one-night-in-New-York" story turns family dinner into a side-splitting disaster.

When two couples — Abby and Benjamin, and David and Meg (freshly converted to Judaism) — gather for a traditional Shabbat dinner, things spiral faster than you can say “hamotzi” when an accidental death (or...murder?) derails the evening entirely, and Meg’s devoutly Catholic parents are due any moment to meet David’s very Jewish family. Before you know it, Shabbat becomes a comedy of biblical proportions.

“Bad Shabbos” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members.

This series continues on Wednesday, March 19 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Blind AF” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

“Blind AF” just won the top award — Audience Choice Best of Fest Documentary — at the recent Sedona International Film Festival.

The subject of the film, Shawn Cheshire — who now lives in Flagstaff — will be in person to host the film premiere and Q&A discussion following the screening.

An unflinching, emotionally raw story of courage, transcendence and the healing power of self-belief, “Blind AF” tells the journey of a blind female Paralympic champion and multiple world-record holder, Shawn Cheshire as she becomes the first blind person to ride a single, non-tandem bike across the United States — 3600 miles in 60 straight days — while confronting painful truths about her past that she spent a lifetime trying to outrun.

Driven as much by the determination to live independently as by the restlessness and vulnerability borne of her complex PTSD, Shawn forges a brave – and often dangerous – path through fear that stands as a powerful testament to the human spirit, and an encouragement for all of us to live our most authentic lives, whatever the risks.

While working as a paramedic in 2009, Shawn Cheshire, a 36-year-old Army veteran and single mother of two, suffered a brain injury that left her suddenly and completely without sight. Spiraling into a debilitating suicidal depression, Shawn sought treatment at a VA hospital where, through a combination of adaptive sports and treatment for complex PTSD, she chooses to live in a new reality. Despite her lack of training, within three years Shawn was competing at the 2016 Paralympic games in Rio and would go on to become a 13-time paracycling US National Champion and a multiple world-record holder of extreme adventures. But her biggest challenge was still ahead.

“Blind AF” is at once a thrilling epic of athletic achievement and a transformative portrait of emotional resilience and bravery.

Meet the film’s subject, Shawn Cheshire, in person at this special Flagstaff premiere.

“Blind AF” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members.

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff!

This series continues on Wednesday, Feb. 22 with the encore of “Into the Canyon” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company.

The film is returning by popular demand after a sold-out show in January. This evening will feature the full-length version of the film.

In 2016 filmmaker/photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedarko set out on a 750-mile journey on foot through the entire length of the Grand Canyon. From the outset, the challenge was far more than they bargained for. More people have stood on the moon than have completed a continuous through hike of the Canyon.

McBride and Fedarko took a sectional approach, achieving a feat that many adventurers have taken decades to complete. Others have lost their lives trying. But their quest was more than just an endurance test – it was also a way to draw attention to the unprecedented threats facing one of our most revered landscapes.

Throughout their passage, McBride and Fedarko encountered an astonishingly diverse and powerful landscape, rich in history, that is now facing perhaps the gravest crisis in the 100-year history of the Grand Canyon National Park. The threat is made stark when they encounter an organization of Navajo women fighting a billion-dollar proposed tram project to be built on sacred ground.

Directed by Pete McBride and produced by the award-winning team at Insignia Films, “Into the Canyon” is a story of extreme physical hardship that stretches the bonds of friendship and a meditation on the timeless beauty of this sacred place. It is an urgent warning about the environmental dangers that are placing one of America’s greatest monuments in peril and a cautionary tale for our complex relationship with the natural world.

“Into the Canyon” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members and $10 for students.
