If your Fire Department has been unable to request funds for your AFG Award because of the DHS shutdown, then I suggest you contact Secretary Makewayne Mullin. Let him know how it is is impacting your operations.

FYI---DHS/FEMA is shut down until the Senate and House of Representatives passes the DHS budget.

All payment requests we had were submitted. I understand everyone's frustration. It is frustrating for us also.

All I can suggest is to contact your Senator and complain.

Because of the intent to defund I.C.E., other agencies, companies are being hurt.

The Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department proudly announces the retirement of Fire Chief Kenny Brown, marking the end of an era after more than 20 years at the helm. Chief Brown's remarkable 35-year volunteer career includes 26 years of dedicated service as our acting chief. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for his leadership, unwavering commitment, and the countless hours he has devoted to our community, including a notable 15 years of service in the Honor Guard. Fayetteville is deeply grateful for his dedication to keeping our community safe.

Ann Marie Williams delivered Spencer Jameson Williams at 4:02 pm. 8 lbs 15 Oz 22 in.

Pray for Anna and her sweet boys, Hardy Joe and Spencer, as they adjust to their new routine.

While this article highlights the growing shortage of volunteer firefighters in West Virginia, the truth is – Alabama is facing the same crisis.

Our state has roughly 1,100 active volunteer fire departments, and many of them are struggling to stay staffed. I've watched firsthand as once-strong departments have dwindled – not because people don't care, but because of the real pressures of life: jobs, family, and financial strain. I understand those challenges.

After spending my entire career in emergency services, I continue to serve today as a volunteer firefighter – because I know just how critical these departments are to our safety, especially in rural communities.

We can't afford to let them fade. Volunteer firefighters are our neighbors helping neighbors – often on the worst day of someone’s life.

If elected to the Alabama House of Representatives, I will work alongside our fire departments to find real solutions – from funding and training to equipment and recruitment support – to ensure they remain viable and strong for generations to come.

Public safety isn’t just a priority – it’s a promise.

Let’s protect those who protect us.
