Today was a great day for the downtown and Firchburg as a whole! First a groundbreaking at 533 Main Street (the former YMCA) and then a ribbon cutting at 347 Main Street showcasing beautiful market rate apartments and of course at Power Surge! Both events were hosted by The Tocci Group and when they say they’ll get it done-they get it done!

It's May and you haven't seen anything about the Annual FRA Food Truck Festival (FTF) held at 166 Boulder Drive! There is a reason for that! A portion of the property's parking lot will be part of the City's sewer separation project (much like most of downtown) and will be torn up for approximately 9 weeks. Making matters difficult is that our FTF occurs in the middle those 9 weeks. So as a safety precaution, we are shifting gears (a little truck humor) and hosting in the fall. We're also hoping that it doesn't rain as it usually does for our event in May.

So mark your calendars for September 19, 2026! We will see you then!

The FRA would like to welcome 2 new members to its Board of Directors. Mr. Brian Lipomi and Mr. Chuck Siomos, both appointed by Mayor Samantha Squailia.

Mr. Lipomi is a local downtown business owner (Letz Rage at 20 Putnam Street) and has previously worked in the construction and ambulance fields.

Mr. Siomos is a retired Fitchburg police officer and former downtown business owner (former JR’s Pub on North Street, now the site of CVS Pharmacy).

We welcome both gentlemen who bring years of experience and local knowledge to the Board!

This morning’s North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Economic Forecast was a great way to start the morning. Always insightful!

As part of a partnership that envisions positive, community-oriented change, Executive Director Meagen Mulherin Donoghue was honored to attend the TDI Fellowship workshop with some of Fitchburg’s heavy hitters, as well as those from other TDI communities. Firchburg is so lucky to have a dedicated group of people including Donna Hodge, Ph.D. who graciously hosted the event this past week.

The FRA's Executive Director, Meagen Donoghue had the honor of joining other community stakeholders at UMass Lowell this week for the Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) Kick Off meeting. The community is fortunate to receive a new TDI Fellow whose focus will be on the Water Street Corridor. The FRA is delighted to be joining in on this effort at Water Street is part of our Urban Renewal District and we look forward to zeroing in and collaborating on projects in the near future.
