Fitchburg native Neisha Boulanger is a mother of three and 2012 graduate of Mount Wachusett Community College. She is dedicated to serving her fellow neighbor, and can always be found behind the scenes of a variety of different service projects, organizing the fine details and providing outreach to Fitchburg and the surrounding cities for a combined total of 27 years of volunteerism experience. isha’s sincere passion for improving the lives of others can be seen in her certifications and extensive trainings in numerous areas, such as her role on many coalitions supporting su***de prevention with Senator Jenifer Flanagan’s steering committee on health assessments and outreach, her training with the American Red Cross, Fitchburg Emergency Management Agency or her dispatch and field work as a Police Matrons Officer in Winchendon. This is not including all of her impressive academic pursuits, while balancing her family life with her commitment to society and human services. Neisha has been an active role model for her college peers and community partners, while maintaining her Honor Student status. She has been involved in Phi Beta Kappa, a national Honors society, as well as completing a rigorous internship with United Way Youth Venture. Neisha has been recognized and awarded for her achievements by the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, the New England Organization of Human Services and nominated volunteer of the month by United Way of North Central Massachusetts. She is always eager to take on leadership positions, such as the role of Human Service Club President for two years, or being a Volunteer Assistant Executive Director —doing community outreach and consulting for the TeenAIDS PeerCorps non-profit organization originally based out of Fitchburg, MA. Most recently, Neisha completed a year long, 1700 hours of service to the community as a committed member of the AmeriCorps program hosted at Mount Wachusett Community College. She transformed the idea for a student-run community information and referral center, and skillfully structured an entire program and training system, which resulted in her creating the Students Serving Our Students (SOS) Office. Within 16 weeks of its creation, the SOS Office has reached out to an estimated 500 students and their families, who received the personal and professional assistance they needed to overcome obstacles that could have prevented students from graduating. Despite graduating in 2012 with High Honors, Neisha isn’t done with her formal education just yet. She will be attending Fitchburg State University in the Fall of 2013 in order to receive her Bachelor’s in Human Services with a minor in Business Management and expand her professional repertoire. Neisha’s extensive background in human services and civic engagement, as well as many managerial and higher education positions equips her with the insight and knowledge to be an effective city council member. This combined with her unique view of the needs of her community as a mother, college student and engaged member of the community, she is ready to lend her many talents and wisdom to the city of Fitchburg, in order to continue pursuing a lifetime of devotion to others.
