Head Start advocates across the country are taking action right now. Have you?

The National Head Start Association has launched an action alert urging Congress to invest in Head Start in FY2027. Wisconsin's voice is a critical part of that national conversation, especially in rural communities where Head Start is often the only option for working families.

Click the link, enter your information, and the system finds your representatives and drafts an email on your behalf. No research needed, no guesswork.

Tell Congress that flat funding is not enough. Wisconsin's children, families, and communities are counting on it.

June is Children's Vision Awareness Month, and it's a great reminder of just how much early vision screenings can shape a child's future.

For young children, so much of early learning happens through what they see. When vision problems go undetected, they can affect a child's ability to learn, communicate, and develop. That is why connecting children to vision screenings is a core part of what Head Start and Early Head Start programs do.

Head Start's comprehensive approach to health means children aren't just supported academically. Programs work to ensure children are connected to the medical and developmental screenings that help identify issues early, when intervention matters most. In Wisconsin, that means thousands of children each year are getting the care they need before they ever enter kindergarten.

Healthy eyes, bright futures. That's Head Start in action.

Head Start and Early Head Start staff across Wisconsin, we need you.

Head Start staff show up every day for Wisconsin's youngest children and families. You deserve wages that reflect that commitment.

The Administration is moving to strip wage and benefit protections from Head Start Performance Standards. Sign onto the joint comment by June 9th and tell HHS and Congress: high-quality programs require high-quality staff, and that means adequate compensation. Sign here: https://bit.ly/headstartsalaries

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at Head Start, mental health isn't an afterthought. It's built into everything we do.

Head Start programs support infant and early childhood mental health through mental health consultation, an evidence-based approach that connects mental health professionals with the people who work with young children every day. That means staff are equipped to help children build emotional skills, manage feelings, and form healthy relationships from the very start.

But it doesn't stop with the kids. Head Start and Early Head Start are among the most valuable federal programs for strengthening the protective factors that reduce risks and providing mental health support to both parents and their children.

Because when a parent is supported, their child is too. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're proud to be part of a system that sees the whole family, not just the child in the classroom.

Behind every Head Start classroom is a community of families. And in Wisconsin, nearly 300 of those families include a parent or guardian who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. military.

This Memorial Day, we honor their service and sacrifice, and we recommit to the work of making sure their children have every opportunity to thrive.

These are the families we show up for every single day. They deserve stability, quality care, and a community that has their back, just like they've had ours.

To every military family in the Head Start community: we see you, and we're honored to serve you.
