SGA would like to take a moment to recognize the recent events which have occurred at our sister school, the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

We remain cognizant of the severity of these transpirations, and together have decided to take a stand towards this behavior in regards to our own university.

We as an organization will stand strong in the pursuit of a safe and equitable campus environment for all students. We will not tolerate violence, discrimination, or harassment of any student by another.

Here are the actions SGA plans to take in regards to upholding a safe campus environment for all:
- Continuing to have regular meetings with Dr. Laura Bayless and President Rich Lapidus, with reports on each meeting.

- Monthly public events and appearances by the Student Government that allows the student body to easily access us and to hold us accountable for our own actions put on through our Events and Collaborations Committee.

- Establishment of a continuous dialogue, outside of the Student Advisory Council, with SGA members from other Massachusetts state schools in order to assist each other in working through any issue that may arise.

Hello Fitchburg State Falcons!

The Student Government Association here at Fitchburg State University is writing to you this morning to remind you of some important updates in regards the recent decision to go remote beginning on November 21st.

First and foremost, we would like to take a minute and let you that the official stance as voted on by the SGA is to support the administration's decision to begin classes remotely. This endorsement by the SGA was made at our last meeting on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 and was later posted to our social media story to inform the campus community. In our meeting, this decision was made to promote health and safety in these difficult times so we have a better chance to return to campus for the next semester.

Additionally, we encourage all members of the campus community to review their emails as more information regarding this transition occurs and move-out questions arise. In a correspondence sent by Mr. Christopher Medley, this information is well explained so please review this email. Please follow the move-out guidelines. Throughout this process, contract tracing will occur and students are allowed one guest who will be traced and expected to follow guidelines when they move out.

As a point of information to students, do not let the remote instruction scare you. Contact members of the faculty or staff and they can put you in touch with Mr. Steve Swartz to receive the proper devices and technology that is required for you to succeed academically at home.

Lastly, the SGA urges you to continue following the COVID-19 guidelines set by the university and the commonwealth. Many students have remarked that we made it far longer than most expected. This is a testament of our ability as a community to follow guidelines so please, we urge you to keep your masks on, stay socially distant, and please follow the Stay-At-Home Advisory set by Governor Baker.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama once said,"There is no vote that does not matter. It all matters."

SGA would just like to a moment this election to remind you that both on our campus community and in today's elections, your voice matters. We urge you to use your voice, be heard in this election, and go cast your ballot this lovely Tuesday if you have not yet done so. We urge you to vote for your future.

Please continue to check out our Instagram page throughout the day which can be found at sga__fsu. Our social media chairperson has been doing a fantastic job keeping up with an informative and nonpartisan social media campaign.
