Last weekend, Gibraltar Fire & Rescue had the pleasure of hosting the Autism & Sensory First Responder Meet & Greet, where children on the autism spectrum from across Door County had the opportunity to meet local first responders in a calm, welcoming environment.
Attendees were able to interact with personnel from Door County fire departments, Door County EMS, the Door County Sheriff's Department , and the Door County K-9 Search & Rescue Team while exploring emergency vehicles, meeting K-9s and their handlers, and participating in a mini fire safety obstacle course.
The event also featured an informative presentation by Dr. Christine Voigtlander of Gibraltar Area School District, who shared valuable insight on children on the spectrum and how first responders can better interact with and support them during emergency situations.
A very special thank you goes out to Klaud's Kitchen 2.0 for generously providing food and beverages for attendees, as well as lending helping hands before, during, and after the event.
Lastly, we would like to recognize Ephraim and Egg Harbor Firefighter/First Responder Miranda Bader, whose vision, dedication, and hard work brought this important community event to life.
Events like these strengthen understanding, build trust, and help ensure that every member of our community feels seen, supported, and safe. We are grateful to everyone who participated and helped make this meaningful event such a success.
