Twenty-five years ago today, 343 firefighters climbed the stairs when everyone else was coming down. They were volunteers and career firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, police officers and everyday people who ran toward danger because someone needed help.

Today, we remember them.

We also honor the men and women who still answer the call — in big cities and in small towns like ours. Every firefighter who pulls on their gear at 2 a.m., every EMT who leaves a family dinner when the pager goes off, carries a piece of that same commitment.

To those we lost on September 11, 2001: we will never forget you.

To those who continue to serve: thank you.

Great work by all FLFD members who participated in our full-scale boat incident command and water rescue training last night! We're thrilled to announce that our drowning "victim" survived and will make a full recovery 😂. Special thanks to Charles Armstrong for playing the patient and taking a dip in the lake last night!

Attention Findley Lake residents and visitors:

If you see rescue apparatus and activity on or around the lake this evening, there's no need for concern. The Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting a water rescue training exercise tonight, August 18th, starting around 7:00PM.

Our rescue boat and crew will be practicing response scenarios to stay sharp and ready for real emergencies on the water. This is routine training, not an actual incident.

Thank you for your understanding, and as always, thank you for supporting your local volunteers.

The Findley Lake crew was out bright and early this morning for the Shaun Giles run!

Tom and Robert ran the 5K, with Robert taking first place among the Findley Lake contingent at 32 minutes. The rest of us tackled the one-mile fun run — and had plenty of fun doing it.

Thanks to everyone who organized and came out. Mornings like this are a good reminder of what a great community we get to serve.

🎉🚒 Happy Birthday to Chief Jack! 🚒🎉
Today we celebrate the guy who would truly do anything for anyone… even if his facial expressions sometimes suggest otherwise. 😂 If you know, you know.

Jack is always there when someone needs him, keeps our department going, and trades in his personal vehicles about as often as the rest of us change our socks. 😂 At this point, when Jack pulls up to a call, we have to take a second to figure out if it’s actually him because we never know what he’ll be driving. 🤣
All jokes aside, we are incredibly lucky to have someone who gives so much of his time, cares about his department and his community, and would do just about anything for anyone.
Happy Birthday, Jack! 🎂🚒 Thank you for everything you do for FLFD. We hope you have a great birthday — and maybe try to keep the same vehicle long enough for us to learn what it looks like. 😂
