Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick’s Day is a widely celebrated event, but unfortunately it’s one of the deadliest holidays due to the number of drunk drivers on the road.

"During the 2020 St. Patrick’s Day period (6 p.m. March 16 to 5:59 a.m. March 18), more than a third (36%) of crash fatalities involved a drunk driver. In fact, from 2016 to 2020, 287 lives were lost in drunk-driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day period (NHTSA)". Not only is drinking and driving a crime that puts yourself and others at risk, but it could also result in hefty legal bills and jail time.

You’ve heard the slogans, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving”. Do your part this St. Patrick’s Day and elect a reliable designated driver to get you home safely if your plans involve alcohol. If you don’t have access to a designated driver, you can plan ahead for a taxi or ride share service. You can also report a drunk driver by calling (419) 424-7150 or 911.

Remember, every alcohol related crash is preventable. Don’t push your luck on St. Patrick’s Day.
