The City of Ferndale is pleased to welcome Nina LaSalle to the City Council. ⭐️ Nina was sworn in at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. She will serve the rest of the current term until December 31, 2027.

Nina has lived in Ferndale for five years and chose the City because of its welcoming atmosphere. She values residents' involvement and likes the City’s approach to housing, equity, and future planning.

Councilmember LaSalle was selected by the City Council from several candidates after an open community application process. LaSalle stood out because of her background and experience in public finance and housing. She is currently employed as a Financial Analyst with experience in grant management, a perspective that will greatly benefit the Ferndale community. She has also served as an ESL instructor, prioritizing accessibility and inclusion, with a strong foundation in Ferndale.

Nina’s priorities include housing, budgeting, and ensuring Ferndale’s investments positively impact the community while remaining financially sound. She also wants to promote inclusion through efforts like the Human Rights Campaign and support the Housing Trust Fund however she can.

“I’m very excited to serve the people of Ferndale! I will make sure to do my best to be accountable and transparent and make sure that the community thrives,” stated Nina.

On behalf of the City of Ferndale, we welcome and congratulate Councilmember LaSalle! 💚

We are so grateful to all the pups and their families who braved the rain to join us at the Paw Protection event yesterday. 🐶🐾 We are especially appreciative to Second Chances Animal Resources, Inc. for hosting and for their hands-on help installing the City’s new microchip scanner. This scanner is permanently attached to the exterior of the City Hall building and can be used to identify a microchip at any time.

A huge shoutout to The Paws Clinic, the Ferndale Cat Shelter, K9 Turbo Training, Emily C. Coaching, Harness Petcare, the Ferndale Police Department and Ferndale Parks & Recreation Department for making this event possible. And thank you to everyone who donated supplies to support animals in need! 🦴

By working together, we will help lost pets find their way back home. 💕🏡

Yesterday, on June 1, 2026, the Annual Rainbow Pride Flag Raising Ceremony was held to recognize June as Gay Pride Month in the City of Ferndale, MI. 🏳️‍🌈

Poignant speeches, each with unique perspectives and insights, were given by Ferndale Mayor Raylon Leaks-May; Julia Music, Director of Ferndale Pride; Tracy Hall, Affirmations Executive Director; Brenden Bell, Affirmations Programs and Services Associate Director; and Emily Loomis, Ferndale Building Official.

The Progress Pride Flag's colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and the addition of black, brown, pink, baby blue, and white, are to signal a commitment to the inclusion of all LGBTQ+ individuals. We fly this flag to indicate that we are a community dedicated to equality, fairness, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel safe, welcome, and included. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤎🩷🩵🤍

Please enjoy these photos of the ceremony, and keep swiping to see more moments from this year’s Pride Festival! 🌈
