Unity Fund

Unity Fund UNITY FUND increases representation within the electorate by supporting LGBTQ+ political candidates.

03/14/2026

As we kick off the 2026 election season, we’re energized and ready for what is shaping up to be a pivotal year. Given the current political climate, Unity Fund expects to support more LGBTQ candidates than usual across Michigan. Our mission remains simple: elect qualified LGBTQ leaders who will bring their perspectives, experiences, and commitment to public service to offices at every level of government.

At the same time, we’re watching troubling developments around the country that highlight why representation is still crucial. Recent efforts targeting LGBTQ people, including legislation in Kansas restricting identification for transgender residents and organized efforts to challenge the legal foundation of same-sex marriage, remind us that progress is not guaranteed. The most durable way to protect our community is to ensure LGBTQ voices are present where decisions are made.

Unity Fund is now accepting endorsement requests from LGBTQ candidates running for executive, legislative, and judicial offices. If you—or someone you know—is running for office, we encourage you to apply or share this opportunity.

As the cycle ramps up, your support is also critical. Please consider making a donation today, or setting up a monthly contribution to sustain our work throughout the election season.

Proudly Yours,
The Unity Fund Board of Directors

P.S.: Save the date for our first event of the year on April 25! Details will come shortly; we look forward to gathering with supporters and celebrating the momentum ahead.

Three Endorsements. Three Wins. On to 2026!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As 2025 draws to a close, we’re reflecting with gratitude, pride, and renewed determination. This has been an extraordinary year for Unity Fund: all three of our endorsed candidates — Denzel McCampbell, Lance Boehmer, and Mike McGuiness — won their elections. Their victories underscore the impact of our mission and the power of representation.

But the work ahead is even bigger. 2026 will be one of Michigan’s most critical election years in decades. In a historic moment, a member of our own community, Jeremy Moss, is running for an open U.S. House seat. We’ve supported his wins before and are committed to helping him do it again.
We already know of six strong LGBTQ candidates running or preparing to run, and we expect that number will more than double by the April filing deadline. As the only PAC in Michigan exclusively dedicated to electing LGBTQ Michiganders, we will be ready.

Meanwhile, escalating attacks on LGBTQ+ rights — especially targeting the transgender community — make one thing painfully clear: representation is essential. Electing leaders from our own community remains the most effective way to protect and advance our rights.

As we gear up for our largest effort yet, we need your help. If you believe in a Michigan where every LGBTQ person is represented and empowered, please consider becoming a monthly sponsor or making a year-end donation. Your support will empower what will undoubtedly be the largest slate of LGBTQ candidates in our history.

Thank you for your trust and partnership. Together, we’ll keep moving Michigan forward.

In solidarity,
The Unity Fund Board of Directors

P.S. Thank you to everyone who joined us at our 5th annual Halloween fundraiser, Rocky Horroween! What a fabulous way to kick off the 2026 cycle — this Time Warp isn’t going backward.

ENDORSEMENT ALERT!
Unity fund is proud to endorse Lance Boehmer for Traverse City Commissioner!

"I’m proud to stand with Traverse City’s LGBTQ+ community. As an openly gay candidate, I believe representation matters - not just in words, but in action. My campaign is about building a Traverse City that’s inclusive, safe, and welcoming for everyone, where equality and opportunity aren’t up for debate but built into how we lead and plan for the future."

Endorsement Alert!
Unity fund is proud to endorse Denzel McCampbell for Detroit City Council, District 7!

"This campaign is about delivering safe and well-resourced neighborhoods across District 7 and the City of Detroit. That includes ensuring that our city values and protects LGBTQ folks. When it comes to housing, access to jobs, and transportation, we know that LGBTQ folks, especially LGBTQ folks of color are disproportionately disadvantaged. It is my commitment to center the most marginalized in our communities and deliver policies and services that increase the quality of life for everyone. "

ENDORSEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT!

UNITYFUND is proud to endorse Mike McGuinness for Mayor of Pontiac, MI!

Mike McGuinness loves Pontiac and has dedicated his life to improving the city. He serves the community as Pontiac City Council President, a position he’s held for over three years. Mike represents Pontiac’s Eastside on City Council, elected by the residents of District Seven.

As Pontiac City Council President, Mike McGuinness has gotten results for residents. Under his leadership the City Council handles the city’s business professionally and hasn’t shied away from making the hard decisions to keep moving us forward. Major improvements have been made with the city’s finances, grant funding awards, code enforcement, youth recreation, housing growth, historic preservation, and more thanks in part to Mike’s leadership.

Mike is running for Mayor to keep us moving forward, but to pick up the pace and get us moving forward faster. He’s best positioned to hit the ground running and finish major initiatives underway with Oakland County’s downtown redevelopment, bridge reconstruction, major road projects, the Woodward Loop conversion, the Clinton River Trail connector, building our new youth recreation center, and more.

He previously served five years on the Pontiac School Board, including as Board President; he was the Pontiac’s first openly gay elected official. He was chair of the Pontiac Arts Commission for four years and executive director of Oakland County’s Historical Society for six years. He previously worked for the Michigan House of Representatives, the U.S. House of Representatives, and as Downtown Berkley’s executive director.
