𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. I warned this day would come. Paid parking won’t just hurt businesses, it will damage our city’s character and push locals out of downtown. This is greedy and dishonest government.

It’s dishonest because two commissioners pushing for this campaigned against it. While that was harder to see then, it’s clear now. I have included their campaign promises below.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽: if you voted for one of these commissioners believing they opposed paid parking, 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 and tell them to honor their promises.

𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁, 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. I want to thank the citizens who are leading this effort. While the petition won’t stop the vote tonight, it will show the strength of those against paid parking. I have included the list of upcoming events where you can add your name!

We must stop this and put Fernandina first.

Last weekend we all watched the Chiefs come up short on their Super Bowl three-peat, however back here at home our local legends at the The Salty Pelican locked in the Fernandina Chili Cookoff Gold for the THIRD year in a row.

It was an honor to once again host the Fernandina Chili Cookoff awards benefiting the Amelia Island Montessori School. Thanks to everyone who came on down to 2nd street.

Special congrats as well to the The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island racking up multiple awards including spiciest chili 🌶️🔥

On my last day as your Mayor, I want to thank the people of Fernandina Beach for electing me. It has been an honor to serve you.

Financially, I am proud that we lowered taxes and reduced the number of costly lawsuits, while scheduling important maintenance projects like roads and sidewalks, and embarking on new projects without raising taxes.

For our children and families, I’m proud that we fully funded our new waterfront park, revamped Main Beach with volleyball courts and a refurbished skate park, initiated the expanded and lighted fields at the MLK Center and a new track for the Peck Center. The completely reimagined Central Park playground will delight children for years to come. I would like to again publicly thank Ms. Betty Berkman and family for honoring the memory of David Berkman with a donation that made the Teddy Bear Playground a reality.

For our environment, I’m proud of the acres we added to conservation land, our new heritage tree program, and keeping our greenway and beaches open for bikes.

For our community, I’m proud that we stopped paid parking, kept live music downtown, built a new fire station, restarted the youth advisory committee and budgeted more funding for public safety than ever before.

There are so many people who have helped along the way, and I am so grateful for the hardworking city employees and the many volunteers who give time for city boards and projects. There are too many to thank everyone individually, but on an almost daily basis I worked with Interim City Manager Jeremiah Glisson, City Clerk Caroline Best, City Attorney Tammi Bach, and Public Information Officer Mary Hamburg. They do excellent work on behalf of the citizens. I especially want to pay tribute to Charlie George who had a dream that a waterfront park would finally be completed and I am proud that we were able to fully fund the project using his plans without raising taxes. If you see Vice-Mayor David Sturges, thank him for his hard work on behalf of this community. He is a good man and an outstanding public servant

Thank you especially to all of my family and friends for their support. The Fernandina Beach community has been strong for the past 200 years, and I wish all the best for our City moving forward. I look forward to seeing you around my hometown in the coming years.

My beautiful wife Alexia and I are currently at the hospital and anticipate a big announcement by the end of the day. 🍼 May God bless you and yours!

City offices will be closed on Monday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

American Legion Post 54 is hosting the annual Veterans Day Parade on November 11, beginning at 11:00am.

The parade begins at Central Park and travels down Ash Street, turns right on 2nd Street, right on Centre Street, and finishes back at the park.
