Residential Structure Fire
At approximately 7:54 a.m., the Fernandina Beach Fire Department (FBFD) and Nassau County Fire Rescue (NCFR), were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of South 6th Street.
Upon arrival, crews encountered a working fire with heavy smoke and flames visible from the front of the residence, with apparent fire in the attic space. All occupants had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive interior fire attack while simultaneously conducting a primary search of the structure to ensure no occupants remained inside. One individual was evaluated on scene for minor burn injuries and was later released without requiring transport.
Sadly, despite the efforts of responding crews, a family pet was lost as a result of the fire.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control and prevent further extension. Incidents of this nature highlight the importance of training, communication, and cooperation between agencies when operating in complex and dangerous conditions. FBFD would like to thank Nassau County Fire Rescue, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, and the Fernandina Beach Police Department for their assistance during this incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
