If you think windfarms off our coast aren’t a problem, read what is happening in New England and think about the same 10-15 miles off Ocean City.

There are power crews throughout Town working to restore power. There are many lines down and transformers that blew last night. At one point, we had two different fire departments in Town putting out two different transformer fires. Please be careful until power is restored. It may take some time.

Public Works’ crew is going home to get some much needed sleep. They will return early tomorrow to further help with snow removal.

Thank you to our guys—Josh, Bryan, John and Mike—you have done a terrific job keeping our streets passable.

A big thank you to FIPD Steve Majewski who was on duty last night. He was taking care of our Town in a BIG way.

Picture below was fire at Atlantic and Bunting last night.

STORM UPDATES/WIRES DOWN/ROAD CLOSURES—will update here.

3:14 am—Power trucks have arrived in Town. They will start with the wires that are down on Coastal Highway so that the highway can be reopened. Weather conditions very hazardous, particularly with the high winds, and DelDOT is pulling plow crews back to base to ensure crew safety. Our Public Works’ crew is still plowing in Town.

11:15 pm—transformer blew at West South Carolina. Please avoid the area.

10:50–transformer blew at Sea Shell City, others in blocks surrounding are sparking including at Matt’s and the Fenwick Islander. Please stay out of the area.

Loss of power throughout Fenwick.

10:47 pm—wires down across Glenn Avenue. A fire was reported and Roxanna Fire Department on scene. Please stay away from the area.

10:30 pm—fire at Atlantic and Bunting. OC Fire extinguished flames. We think it was a transformer. This will impact the detour to Bunting due to the wires down across Coastal Highway. Please follow the instructions of first responders at the scene.

10:00 pm—Level 3 driving restrictions in place for all of Sussex County. If you are not a first responder or utility personnel, please do not travel on the roadways.

9:30-10 pm—
We have reports of live electrical wire down on the northbound lanes of Coastal Highway near Royal Farm as well as transformers arcing near Holly’s and Sea Shell City.

There is also a wire down on the west side of Atlantic Street. Atlantic Street is now closed.

There is also a primary line down in the parking lot at Fenwick Village.

FIPD has CLOSED northbound Coastal Highway at Royal Farm and Atlantic Street as well.

Lines down across Oyster Bay. Oyster Bay is closed.

Delmarva Power called. Fire Department is in Town.

Bunting Avenue is available for detour for Coastal Highway but there is no detour for Atlantic Street or Oyster Bay at the present time.

There are numerous other transformers arcing throughout Town and fire department is in Fenwick investigating.

Local power outages occurring.

02/23/2026

A fire is reported at Atlantic Street near Bunting Avenue. OC Fire Department is on scene and flames are now extinguished. We think it may be a transformer. Please avoid the area.
