Our streets are all clean and bulk trash pick up is TOMORROW (Wednesday). Now we are turning our attention to putting our dune fencing back up.

A huge shout out to our Public Works crew—John, Josh, Bryan—led by Mike Locke for doing a SPECTACULAR job putting Fenwick back together.

Our beaches are open as well as our businesses, restaurants and shops. Enjoy the off-season!

STORM CLEANUP UPDATE-

The Town has arranged a BULK TRASH pickup for Wednesday, October 7th for any storm debris. Take storm debris to the edge of the road to take advantage of the pickup.

On the ocean side, we lost dune fencing throughout Town and from about Cannon Street south to the Maryland line we have dune scarping causing significant drop offs at the crossings. Some of the drop offs are greater than 10 feet so please BEWARE. There is also a lot of debris on the beach.

Please stay off of the dune areas so we can attempt repairs. We need to maintain our dunes and try and stabilize the areas of scarping. Our Public Works crew will be repairing fencing next week and have already been working on picking up debris. We have let DNREC know we are making repairs so that DNREC crews can focus on those communities impacted more severely than us.

On the bayside, our Public Works crew have already removed large debris from the roadway. There is a great deal of mulch and pine needles that washed up from folks’ gardens and we will be working on cleaning that up street by street.

If you got some of the tidal surge in your home and have not done a clean up before, a simple bleach and water solution is pretty effective in cleaning up after water intrusion and helps reduce mold development. Don’t forget to utilize the bulk trash pickup next week as well.

Our waters have receded on the bayside and now
the clean up begins.

Initial assessments along the beach reveal that Fenwick was remarkably fortunate —our dunes held and we have minimal damage particularly compared with other coastal towns. Bayside we made it through like the resilient group we are despite hosting a tremendous amount of the bay in the streets and around and sometimes in our homes.

Our Public Works crew will begin the task of clean up as I’m sure many of you will too.

Before I sign off, I’ll remind folks that St. Mathews’s By the Sea is hosting a coastal preparedness symposium tomorrow night. Perfect timing!

High water mark on South Schulz Street at 1 pm today was 22.5 inches. So, please take caution if trying to drive. Even Jeeps and trucks are being challenged so please be aware of the water levels if you are trying to navigate on the bayside.

We have reports of smoking electrical boxes and one electrical outage on South Carolina. So, be prepared if electrical outages do occur. We won’t be able to get repairs until after the water recedes.

Gotta love Fenwick Islanders making the best out of a very wet situation. Stay safe out there!

We are now one with the bay. I measured the water on South Schulz Street and it is 17 inches and 15 inches on Dagsboro Street. I’ll measure again at high tide around 12:30. Morning report from our duty officers is that all bayside streets are flooded, many impassable even for trucks. Sedan level vehicles should not attempt to drive through the water in most of our streets at this time. Route 1 southbound north of Indian River inlet is closed. Route 1 in Fenwick is clear. Our dunes have held on the ocean side; however there is a large drop off around Bayard Street.

Stay safe, check on your neighbors and I’ll post some more pictures when I get them.

We are at dead low tide on the bayside and unfortunately the flooding still remains significant around our Town. The King tide is on its way to us tonight with peak around midnight or a little after so be prepared for more water coming to us.

On the ocean side, our dunes are doing their job. There is a pretty big drop off in the Bayard Street area so be aware. Hopefully, as the winds have now died down, the ocean will too.

Please stay safe and look out for your neighbors. If you have to navigate the bayside roads, please drive slowly (NO WAKE ZONE) and stay on the crown of the road. Many of our roads are not passable for sedan type vehicles and some are going to be deep enough to challenge trucks/jeeps so please be aware of your surroundings.
