In uniform, I get the opportunity to help people begin their military journey and take the first steps toward serving something bigger than themselves.

Out of uniform, I’m proud to continue serving through veteran organizations like the VFW, where I can connect with and support those who have already answered the call and completed their service.

To me, that’s one of the greatest parts about serving in the Missouri Army National Guard and why we’re called Citizen Soldiers. We serve our state and nation when duty calls, while also remaining active members of the communities we call home. Whether it’s mentoring future Soldiers, supporting veterans, volunteering, or giving back locally, service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off.

Yesterday the Missouri Army National Guard had the opportunity to bring The Guard Gauntlet to the Pacific High School football team.

This event was built to challenge the athletes physically and mentally through teamwork, communication, leadership, strategy, and a little bit of shared hardship. The goal was not just to see who was the strongest or fastest, but to see who could communicate, adapt, encourage teammates, and lead when things got tough.

These young men showed great effort, competitiveness, and team pride from start to finish. Big thank you to the Pacific football coaches and athletes for allowing us to be part of their off-season development.

Leadership is earned. Teams are built.
That’s what the Guard Gauntlet is all about.
