Mr. Billy Joe Shelton, Age 81, of Fayetteville, TN. Billy Joe was born on January 3, 1939, in Lincoln County, TN, to the late Joe Almer and Clara Shelton. He passed away on May 14, 2020 at Lincoln Medical Center.
Billy Joe worked at the Elk Cotton Mill for 10 years before he became a member of the Fayetteville City Police Department where he retired as a captain after 28 years of service. He loved bird and quail hunting.

Please take a moment out of your day and remember former Officer Richard Tucker

Richard was born on August 24, 1956, in Lincoln County, TN, to Brice Smith Tucker, and the late James Marolyn Tucker. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Officer Tucker served on the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Fayetteville Police Department in many roles, including the Narcotics Team, K9 Deputy, Detective, Lincoln County Courthouse Guard, and retired as a Patrolman in 2018 from the City of Fayetteville. Mr. Tucker also worked as a heavy equipment operator with RL Kent and EW Lewter contractors. Richard, known as “Papa” loved spending time with his grandchildren fishing, going to Tims Ford Lake, and boating. Mr. Tucker passed away on October 2, 2023, at St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville, surrounded by his loving family.

Please take a moment out of your day and remember former Officer Marc Crabtree.

Marc Crabtree, age 59, of Fayetteville, TN passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at his residence. He was born on June 30, 1959 in Lincoln County, TN to the late Thomas Collins Crabtree and Adele Bryant Crabtree who survives. Mr. Crabtree was a retired police commander for the Fayetteville Police Department, was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Please take a moment out of your day and remember former Officer Karen Gardner

Theresa Karen Swinford Gardner, age 72, of Fayetteville was born on December 6, 1949 to the late Roy Weaver Swinford and Lela Prince Swinford. She passed away at Maury Regional Hospital on September 11, 2022.

Karen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had great love for family and friends. She loved serving her community, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She earned her black belt in taekwondo karate and shared her knowledge of this skill with many people of the Lincoln County community.

Karen worked at Amana for 17 years before leaving to serve her country, joining the United States Army stationed at Redstone Arsenal for 5 years. She started her career at the Fayetteville Police Department as a reserve officer, becoming a full time patrolman in 1988 she was promoted to Investigator specializing in child abuse a short time after serving as a patrolman. After serving 14 years with the Fayetteville Police Department, she joined the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department serving as a school resource officer for Lincoln County Department of Education. While working at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, she also served the Lincoln County Juvenile Court as a community service officer. Not only did she serve Fayetteville and the Lincoln County community, she worked part time as a Petersburg patrolman. Karen retired in 2015 from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. After retiring from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, she served as a substitute teacher for the Lincoln County Department of Education.
