About last night…

We had a strong Downtown Alliance community meeting with updates from the Alliance, City partners, and the Cool Spring Downtown District. There’s a shared understanding that well-coordinated experiences — the kind that encourage people to move, explore, and spend time inside businesses — are what make downtown stronger.

The conversation centered on what matters most right now:
• Supporting downtown businesses
• Improving flow and coordination during events
• Making Fourth Friday work better for both visitors and merchants
• Continuing to grow downtown in the right way

Big thanks to all who showed up, shared input, and continues to be part of shaping what comes next.

Big conversations about downtown Fayetteville’s future happened at last night’s Cumberland County Commissioners meeting. Two issues stood out for downtown businesses:

Courthouse lot redevelopment, including hotel and mixed-use concepts.

A proposed temporary pause on new data-center development while local leaders study infrastructure, utility capacity, water use, land use, and community impact.

Downtown Alliance board member Isaac Alfaro spoke during the public hearing and raised an important practical distinction: ordinary business servers are not the same as hyperscale AI or crypto data centers.

For downtown businesses, these decisions affect redevelopment, parking, utilities, access, property values, and long-term investment.

One line that captured the night: “The right kind of growth pays for itself.”
