This week, Employment Source Warrior Bridge Coordinator Matt Dumas and ServiceSource Vice President, External Affairs, Ashlie Strackbein journeyed to Capitol Hill for the 2026 North Carolina Economic Development Summit hosted by Senator Thom Tillis and Rep. Richard Hudson. The event featured several speaker panels with members of the North Carolina Congressional Delegation, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the North Carolina Chamber.

During his visit to Washington, Matt also had productive discussions with the offices of Rep. David Rouzer and Senator Ted Budd, focusing on our efforts in the Program, workforce development, and veteran services. We take pride in collaborating with our federal representatives on these vital issues that impact our community and people we serve. Their ongoing support of our mission is sincerely appreciated!

We are incredibly grateful to take part in the Annual Days of Caring through United Way of Cumberland County. A heartfelt thank‑you to the volunteers from Chemours who spent their time supporting our Warrior Bridge Giving Bridge Gardens.
Warrior Bridge proudly provides direct support and resources to more than 1,100 veterans in our community each year. These gardens help nourish individuals who are unhoused or at risk of becoming unhoused by providing fresh produce and promoting healthy living. They also serve as a meaningful space where veterans can volunteer, spend time outdoors, and experience the therapeutic benefits of hands‑on work.
Thank you to United Way of Cumberland County for bringing us together and helping us all Live United!

We celebrated the opening of Friendship House Cottages, marking the next phase of our Friendship House Fayetteville program, with a ribbon cutting alongside partners and community members. ServiceSource Chief Program Officer Andy Rind and Employment Source Executive Director Jason Amorose joined supporters to recognize this important milestone. Friendship House provides affordable, integrated housing for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who build social and independent living skills while sharing apartments with college students or young professionals. Friendship House Cottages are the next step on the journey, where residents live more independently while refining those skills in a familiar environment.

The event included remarks by two of our first Friendship House residents, Michael Brown and Marina Howell, who are moving into the Cottages. Michael and Marina spoke about the transformative power of the program, explaining how it has helped them build social and practical skills for their next chapter in life.

Many thanks to the partners, donors, and community members who helped bring this project to life including ServiceSource Board Member Weyher Dawson; our general contractor Ben Stout Construction; Reverend Chip Stapleton of Highland Presbyterian Church; Friendship House Chaplain Reverend Dr. Scott Cameron; Dr. Franklin Clark; the McClimon and Cameron Families; and the late Connie Bubon. We look forward to watching this community grow and welcome more residents in the years ahead

We’re proud to recognize Ashley Bustamante, a U.S. Navy veteran participating in our Warrior Bridge program, as she prepares to take the next step toward business ownership.

Ashley came to Warrior Bridge for support in pursuing her goal of opening her own beauty studio. Through a scholarship from the ServiceSource Foundation’s Community Endowment Grant, she will receive full funding for upcoming training in manicuring and nail technology. Matthew Dumas, Warrior Bridge Manager, provided assistance to Ashley throughout the grant application process.

A certified aesthetician, Ashley is expanding her skill set to strengthen her technical expertise and prepare for the launch and operation of her own studio.

We look forward to supporting Ashley as she begins this next chapter.

We were honored to help sponsor the Bread ‘n Bowls event last week in support of Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch At this meaningful event we were able to connect with community members and provide several referrals to our Families Achieving Self-Sufficiency Together (FASST) program, which works with adults and youth with disabilities to achieve financial self-sufficiency. We are always grateful for the opportunity to participate in Bread ‘n Bowls alongside a valued local partner, and promote their work serving our homeless and struggling neighbors in the Fayetteville area.
