Our guest speaker Tuesday evening was Hannah Faulkner, Development Director/Volunteer Support Manager, from Junior's House Inc Child Advocacy Center & CASA Program. Juniorβs House is a non-profit agency providing prevention, intervention, and treatment services to physically and sexually abused children. It operates in Lincoln County and 3 adjacent Tennessee counties. Their stated mission is to bring abused kids into a safe space to begin the healing process.
Hannah described the team approach that brings counselors, therapists, Department of Children's Services, law enforcement, judicial services, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) together to ensure every child receives the help and support they need. She also highlighted a need for CASA volunteers who are assigned one child at a time to usher through the court process. Junior's House provides those volunteers training and mentoring so they can ensure each child has a swift and sensitive journey through the court system.
The club was also excited to have as our guest Will Pettie from Fayetteville High School. Will was a member of the FHS Leo Club for 4 years. He was just awarded one of our "Era P Jones" $1,500 college scholarships. Will thanked the club and shared with us that he plans to attend Motlow State, then Tennessee Tech to pursue an engineering degree.
We hope to have our other two scholarship winners with us at an upcoming meeting.
