The Outgoing First Sergeant, 1SG Aaron R. Dacey, enlisted in the United States Army in 1988 as a 63W, Heavy Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. Upon leaving active duty, he joined the N.C. Army National Guard in 1992. Throughout his career, 1SG Dacey has held several unit assignments, to include the 691st Maintenance Company and an instructor with Regional Training Site-Maintenance (RTS-M). In addition, he deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. 1SG Dacey stated his time as First Sergeant was a challenging assignment. He enjoyed building trust, mentorship, and coordinating successful training. He stated there was never a dull moment during the past four years, which made this a rewarding assignment. During the ceremony, CPT Kyle E. Rooney (HHD CDR) presented 1SG Dacey with a gift. 1SG Dacey's spouse was presented with flowers. 1SG Dacey, we appreciate your leadership and support over the years, and you will be missed!

The 139th Regiment (NC-RTI) Fort Bragg, NC held its Change of Responsibility Ceremony earlier this month. The Incoming First Sergeant, 1SG Charles A. McWhorter, joined the W.V. Army National Guard in 2008 as a 31B, MP. 1SG McWhorter transferred to the N.C. Army National Guard in 2020. 1SG McWhorter has successfully completed several military education courses throughout his career, to include Master Leader Course and Air Assault. 1SG McWhorter stated he's excited for this next transition in his career and he's looking forward to working with Soldiers and Battalion leaders. 1SG McWhorter thanked the outgoing 1SG for his leadership and wished him well with his new role. 1SG McWhorter's spouse was presented with flowers during the ceremony. Welcome to the 139th RTI, 1SG McWhorter! We look forward to serving with you!

Sergeant First Class (SFC) Geoffrey P. Williams was presented the Army Commendation Medal for being selected as the Instructor of the Year for period 1 October 2024 - 30 September 2025. SFC Williams distinguished himself as an instructor with the 1st Field Artillery Training Battalion by demonstrating exceptional leadership abilities and devotion to duty! SFC Williams demonstrated technical knowledge while facilitating material, which contributed to his success as an instructor. Congratulations SFC Williams, well deserved!

Master Sergeant (MSG) Randall L. Steffey was presented with an Army Achievement Medal for his contributions, while serving as a Team Leader in support of the Tarheel Challenge Academy's acclimation phase at Camp Butner, N.C. in January 2026. MSG Steffey led cadets through several demanding training events. MSG Steffey's outstanding performance, motivation and mentorship were instrumental toward the successful training of at-risk youth! Throughout her military career, SFC Katie A. Schilz has displayed patriotism, fidelity, and professional excellence. In view of these qualities, SFC Schilz was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant (MSG)! MSG Schilz has demonstrated decisive leadership skills throughout her dedicated service to the N.C. Army National Guard. MSG Schilz's family attended the promotion. Her daughters eagerly stepped up to remove her previous rank and pinned on her new rank. Sergeant First Class (SFC) Thomas Bush was awarded the N.C. Achievement Medal for being selected as the Instructor of the Quarter for the period 1 April 2025 - 30 June 2025. SFC Bush distinguished himself through his outstanding performance as a 13B instructor! He fostered a dynamic learning environment, while applying his practical knowledge and tactical proficiency. It is with heartfelt sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Staff Sergeant (SSG) Jason Mark McKibben. SSG McKibben passed away on November 20, 2025. SSG McKibben was an enlisted member with the 139th Regional Training Institute (NC-RTI). He enlisted in the N.C. Army National Guard in 2010 as a 91B. SSG McKibben leaves behind a legacy of dedication, courage, and loyalty. Our thoughts and prayers are with SSG McKibben's family during this time. SSG Jason M. McKibben will be greatly missed.

Congratulations to Regional Training Site-Maintenance, Ft Bragg NC, for being recognized as the #1 Regional Training Institute-Maintenance facility in the nation for outstanding accreditation! Members of the unit earned an Army Commendation Medal for demonstrating unmatched excellence in training, maintenance operations, and institutional readiness. COL Almond and SGM Kite presented the awards, along with a coin. SSG Antwan Moore (bottom right photo) was presented an additional award for his outstanding performance as an instructor with ASIH8 courses.

Earlier this month, Class 001-26, Phase 3 with Regional Training Site-Maintenance, Fort Bragg, NC graduated Advanced Leader Course (ALC). The instructors for ALC Class 001-26, Phase 3 were SFC Owens and SFC England. Congratulations to these NCOs for successfully completing training to enhance their technical, tactical, critical-thinking, and leadership skills!
