U.S. Army 1st Lt. Jonathan Goins, Sgt. 1st Class Allen Haney, Staff Sgt. Chelsea Leon, and Sgt. Jesus Prado, assigned to the Arkansas National Guard and Joint Task Force–District of Columbia, were among the soldiers who responded to a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., on April 25, 2026. Working alongside federal and local agencies, the team quickly moved from a standby posture into action to help secure the scene and protect attendees.

“Our guardsmen on this mission represent the very best of our nation,” asserts Brig. Gen. Leland Blanchard II, the interim commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard. “The world got a brief glimpse, but I see them each day serving and doing amazing things across the district.”

When the situation evolved, the response was instinctive. These Soldiers from Arkansas, Nebraska, and North Dakota showed a fundamental truth: readiness isn’t a switch flipped during a crisis, it’s a state of being created by years of training and discipline. Their actions showcased a force that is always poised to move from community members to trained and disciplined professionals. They embody the Army values, and proved that the National Guard is always ready, always there.”

Yesterday, members of the 2-142nd had the opportunity to take part in the Base HIIT workout at Nationals Park an incredible experience bringing together service members from across all branches for a high-energy, team focused fitness event, and some friendly competition.

The workout transforms the stadium into a full-body training ground, utilizing the field, warning track, bullpens, and stadium steps. Participants rotate through multiple workout stations each focused on building strength, endurance, agility, and overall physical readiness.

After a couple of weeks at Fort Bliss, they will travel to Southwest Asia to support Operations Inherent Resolve and Spartan Shield. Spartan Shield is supported by Army National Guard and Army Reserve units on a continual rotational basis to provide security, logistical support, strengthen partnerships and build partner capacity against regional threats. Inherent Resolve advises, assists, and enables partner forces to secure lasting defeat of ISIS and to enable the establishment of an enduring security cooperation framework. Their deployment is expected to last approximately nine months.

Talk about stepping up to the plate! ⚾️🇺🇸

Staff Sgt. JT Price knocked it out of the park, earning a well-deserved promotion to Sergeant First Class at Nationals Park! Surrounded by fellow service members and family, it was truly a big-league moment for an outstanding leader.

After the ceremony, the celebration continued with a tour of the stadium, where the group got to take in the rich history of the ballpark and the Washington Nationals.

Thank you to our friends the Washington Nationals for allowing us to celebrate such a milestone at your park.

Soldiers and leadership from 2nd Battalion recently took part in a joint-service Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray training. This training helps service members understand firsthand what to expect if they are ever exposed to OC spray, ensuring they remain prepared, resilient, and capable of performing their duties under challenging conditions.

Training like this strengthens readiness, builds confidence, and reinforces the commitment our Soldiers have to staying mission-ready at all times.
