Through a workplace wellness initiative, employees have planted their own vegetables, herbs and flowers while creating opportunities to connect with coworkers and share gardening tips.

We were proud to join community leaders and partners yesterday for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine.

Chairman Kirk deViere, Vice Chairwoman Veronica Jones, Commissioners Glenn Adams, Pavan Patel, Marshall Faircloth and Henry Tyson and County Manager Clarence Grier attended the ceremony to celebrate this significant investment in the future of health care in our community. The new School of Medicine will educate and train future physicians, strengthen our health care workforce and help expand access to care throughout our region. By creating opportunities to learn, train and practice medicine locally, the school is helping build the next generation of health care professionals while strengthening the care available close to home.

Join us in congratulating Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine and everyone who helped make this vision a reality.

Every offers a glimpse into Cumberland County’s past.

As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, we’re highlighting some of the people who helped shape our community. Robert Rowan, a signer of the Liberty Point Resolves—an early public declaration supporting freedom for the American colonies—served in several important roles in early Cumberland County government, including Sheriff and Commissioner of Fayetteville.

One position he did not enjoy, however, was Register of Deeds. When he finally resigned in 1794, he ended his deed book with a memorable note: “Thanks be to God I am done with this business!”

What a great day we had in the sun!

Last Saturday, our team was honored to be part of the Town of Wade, NC Government Founder's Day Celebration and Fayetteville, NC Kiwanis Club Family Fun Day events.

From the Founder's Day parade, antique displays, local vendors, community activities and traditional cake bake contest at the Founder's Day event to the many games, crafts and family activities at the Kiwanis Family Fun Day, both had something for everyone!

We enjoyed spending time with residents and sharing information about County services provided by Cumberland County Public Library, Cumberland County Department of Social Services, Cumberland County Department of Public Health and more.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make the day such a memorable celebration. We had a wonderful time and loved seeing the community come together!
